Football is a big part of the player’s livelihoods that builds team comradery, creates friendships that last a lifetime, and there’s nothing that can compare to playing under the lights. For this student Spotlight, I had the pleasure of talking with Jack Tremblay WR 2022 from Lincoln-Way East.
It’s no surprise that Lincoln-Way East is a powerhouse football team in Illinois that is stacked with talent year in and year out. I got the pleasure of talking with one of their offensive playmakers, Jake Tremblay. Need him to run a 9 route for a deep ball? He’ll go get it. Need him to run a corner route and toe-tap for the catch? He can do that too. Need him to get the first down? He’ll find a way to make it happen. He’s a reliable target that plays his heart out and leaves it all on the field game in and game out.
Tremblay was pulled up on Varsity during his freshman and sophomore season where he played behind AJ Henning. Tremblay talks about how during those years he learned tremendously from AJ who in essence took him under his wing to show him the ropes. Tremblay was apart of the 2019 State Championship team with AJ where he got a first-hand look at what it takes to win a state title. When looking back on that journey, Tremblay stated “There was a lot of hard work that went into winning that state title in 2019, the two a days, film reviews, workout sessions. It was all that helped us come together to win the state title”.
With this season being pushed back it was hard on the athletes not being able to play the sport they love and also being isolated from everyone from Covid. Tremblay opened up on his experience with this and how he feels moving forward. “It’s been a rollercoaster of emotions, I’ve been staying focused on maintaining my grades, working hard in the weight room, hard on the field, and am pushing through hoping there will be a spring season”. He has been attacking the field with his teammates at indoor facilities and keeping in contact with his teammates to keep that team chemistry. His hard work is paying off, he’s added 10 pounds of muscle weight to himself since last season going from 180 to 190 pounds.
Tremblay is an explosive player that has big playmaking abilities, just watch the film and he’ll turn eyes. “Once I have the ball in my hands I can be a threat and make plays for my team”. He is spot on, he’s flying high under the radar in his recruiting process, he’s seeing interest from North Dakota State University, Bowling Green, Iowa, and Columbia. I expect his recruiting to take off once he gets more film. When asked about what he needs to focus on improving he had this to say, “I need to work on coming off the ball faster for all of my routes. On deep routes I have that quick burst, on short routes, I come off slower so I’ve been working on fixing that so it doesn’t come across as a tendency that the defense can pick up on”.
Tremblay is a very hard worker both in the weight room and in the classroom. I expect that he’s going to have a dominant season with his fellow teammates (Max Tomczak, Jake Scianna, and Trey Johnson) as they look to compete for another state title. “I hope we have a season, I can’t wait to put the pads on to play”.
