Continue ReadingAs the days pass, more film gets watched, and more articles get pumped out, my mind leads me to many different names from various Minnesota high school football programs over the years. I especially like to try and remember and follow-up with recent graduates and check-in on former MN preps who are in the midst of their college football careers. In addition to news on current MN preps still in high school, I try to gather these little tidbits and updates and form enough information for a complete article to bring to our subscribers. We got some noteworthy news here, so let’s get into it. Thanks for reading!
Quientral Jamison-Travis (MPLS North c/o 2020) DL. 6’4, 275 lbs. Signed with Iowa Western Community College
This is one I’ve been constantly checking and rechecking since the c/o 2020 got into their freshman seasons this past Fall. Jamison-Travis was the best player in the Twin Cities last season as a senior and was a dominant force as both an OL and a DL for the talent-ridden Polars and won a boatload of awards including a First Team All-Metro nod as well as a Second Team All-State selection after a crazy statistical season 83 tackles, 21 tackles for loss and 17 sacks. After the season ended it was looking like Jamison-Travis would accept a scholarship offer to the Iowa State Cyclones if he qualified academically, but that never seemed to happen. Luckily, he’s landed at one of my favorite community colleges in the nation in Iowa Western, and I think it’s an excellent fit. With some of the best JUCO facilities in the nation, a grounded and supportive coaching staff, and an unbelievable record of putting defensive lineman into P5 schools, I think it’ll be a great opportunity for Jamison-Travis to focus on getting his grades in order and play some high-quality JUCO football. Big things coming for him and I was pumped to see he officially is a Reiver.
Luke Herzog Luke Herzog DB St. Thomas Academy | 2019 State MN (St. Thomas Academy c/o 2019) LB. Freshman. 6’1, 209 lbs. Transferred from North Dakota to the University of St. Thomas.
And so the Tommies transfer train rolls onward! Known for landing D1 bounceback talent from MN, the now FCS University of St. Thomas keeps the tradition alive after I saw Herzog on the Tommies 2020 roster a couple of days ago. I was obviously excited, and it was a great opportunity to check back in on the former STA Cadet standout. As a physical and athletic LB prospect in high school, Herzog was a 2x All-Conference pick who as a senior recorded 31 total tackles, including six behind the line of scrimmage, two sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception during his senior season. He also was a 2x captain for both football and the illustrious Cadets hockey team, where he played in the MN state tourney thrice. He also helped St. Thomas Academy reach the state championship game on the gridiron, and took his versatile skillset to the North Dakota Fighting Hawks football team as a PWO. After redshirting in 2019, he has resumed his football career at UST. Also a cool note, his two brothers, including his twin, play for the rival Johnnies. Tommies got a good one!
Aaron Syverson Aaron Syverson QB Minnetonka | 2019 State MN (Minnetonka c/o 2019) QB. 6’ 195 lbs. Transferred from Colorado State as a PWO to St. John’s University
I got lucky finding this one. After checking in some former preps on our PrepRedzoneMN Twitter account, I came across the former Minnetonka Skippers QB’s account and saw that his bio had been changed to “SJU.” That was exciting news to me, because as far as I knew the ’Tonka product was still playing football at Colorado State, where he had accepted a PWO opportunity after graduating in 2019. He was a slippery, mobile, and talented duel-threat QB prospect who brings a lot to the table as a prospect. Although I still can’t confirm that he’s playing football for SJU, it’s still an interesting turn of events. He’s going look great in the Red and White of SJU if he is indeed playing football for them. Either way good luck, Aaron!
Samaje Finch Garrett (Minnetonka c/o 2019) DL. 6’3, 330 lbs. Transferred from Highland Community College to Iowa Central CC @SamajeG
Another former Minnetonka prep, the Skippers had a monster pair of interior lineman in the now mentioned Garrett and former teammate turned Iowa Western CC DT Carvon Gurley Carvon Gurley 6'3" | DL Minnetonka | 2020 State MN , who took the JUCO route after stuffing holes on the DL or opening them on offense. He’s a massive prospect with high-upside who can move well for his size, and I came across the news recently that Garrett had transferred JUCOs and is now at Iowa Central CC, who do an excellent job of developing MN talent and recently got former Park Center OT Jakob Bradford a scholarship to Syracuse, so I like the fit.
Trashawn McMillian (Cooper c/o 2019) QB. Transferred from Fullerton CC to Iowa Western Community College
A duel-threat product that played his high school ball for the Robbinsdale Cooper Hawks, where his quick release and pocket presence/mobility helped him become hard to account for and dangerous at extending plays. He’s had a heckuva college career thus far though, and although he held an offer from Southwest Minnesota State he signed to play JUCO ball for NDSCS in Wahpeton, ND, but has since transferred to Fullerton CC in California and as of January has enrolled at Iowa Western, where he will join a strong contingent of former MN preps. I’m excited to finally see him play some football soon!
Sean Allerheiligen (Providence Academy) C/o 2022. WR. 6’2, 200 lbs. Transferred from PA to Mill Valley High School in Kansas
Still in high school, the well-built wideout prospect put up 34 catches for 404 yards and 1 TD in six games at Providence Academy and very recently has transferred to the state of Kansas to finish out his prep career at Mill Valley in Shawnee. In his junior season he showed that he can be a productive possession receiver, and I like what I see from some of his route-running abilities. He is impressive at catching the ball at its highest point, and can make contested catches in traffic if need be. He’s a strong WR prospect and I’ll be interested to see how he develops in Kansas and how his senior film looks next season.
David Connors Jr. David Connors Jr. 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Cooper | 2022 State MN (Shakopee/Waukee, IA) C/o 2022. DL. 6’4, 230 lbs.
I’ve written about the former Shakopee product before when the junior defensive lineman earned a scholarship offer from Arizona State in December, and wanted to give another quick update as he received a low 3-star rating from 24/7Sports upon their recent c/o 2022 rankings update a couple days ago. He’s a really powerful DL prospect with a violent initial strike and a high-motor who finishes his hits with authority when given the change. He also showed he could play the 3 or 5T and can split double teams, and has a good frame to continue adding weight. I like what I see in-terms of strength at this point in time, though, and Waukee plays some really good football, so I’m excited to see how he grows going into his senior year. I hope some more colleges are taking a look at him.
Eli King Eli King 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Caledonia | 2022 State MN (Caledonia) 2022. 6’3, 185 lbs. WR. Will be playing basketball in college.
Possibly the biggest news of the list comes from the Winona/La Crosse area. First reported by the LaCrosse Tribune and confirmed by Ryan Burns at 24/7Sports, it seems that the #1 player in the state for the class of 2022 in Caledonia’s do-it-all phenom Eli King Eli King 6'3" | 180 lbs | WR Caledonia | 2022 State MN will be playing basketball at the next level, like his two older brothers before him. I can’t lie, I selfishly am a little saddened that I won’t see a King brother play collegiate football, but it obviously must be the best decision for him and I will be excitedly watching him hoop in college no matter where he signs. It’s crazy though, he is turning down football offers from Iowa, Minnesota, Iowa State, Missouri, Nebraska, Stanford, Notre Dame, and Penn State amongst others. He does hold a Stanford basketball offer as well though, in addition to Iowa, Minnesota, Northern Iowa, Iowa State, and Marquette basketball offers. I really hope the Gophers can land him, but Iowa has a good history with Caledonia prospects and it would be very hard to turn down an opportunity to go to the best public university in the world. Best of luck in advance, Eli!
