I spent time talking with the 2022’s that were in attendance as they are in the middle of their high school careers. For some they already have their college football careers in motion, for others, they are still awaiting an offer. Here are the defensive 2022’s in the Legacy program.
Malyk Jones Malyk Jones 5'10" | 215 lbs | LB Homewood-Flossmoor | 2022 State IL (22’ LB) Homewood-Flossmoor – 3.1 GPA
Jones is going to cause problems at LB for the next few seasons at HF. He attacks downhill, fills holes in run support, and has the ability to blow up plays. Jones has a high motor which he utilizes to make plays all over the field and in his pursuit angles to make the tackle by not giving up on the play. He takes a nice read step which gives him that slip second advantage to diagnose the play which results in Jones making big plays for HF’s defensive unit.
Sean Kinard (22’ DB) Brother Rice – 4.0 GPA
Kinard attacks downhill and is another Brother Rice DB that fills holes in run support. He reacts quickly to plays which results in Kinard delivering big hits to the ballcarrier. He isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder in his aggressive playstyle, he has a solid frame and has the skillset to play at the next level. Kinard has time to fill out his frame and once he does he’ll start getting more offers.
Jovan Jones Jr (22′ DB) Rich Township – 3.5 GPA
Jones has a fluid turn of the hips which helps him stay with his man in coverage and cover sideline to sideline without losing the step advantage. He attacks downhill filling holes in run support and getting in the backfield to make a play. Jones takes solid pursuit angles to make open-field tackles and has quick acceleration to close in on the ballcarrier quicker.
Luke Niksic (22′ FS) Brother Rice – 3.5 GPA
Niksic gets it done for Brother Rice at FS by playing both the pass and the run well. He fills holes in run support where he attacks downhill and doesn’t give up on plays by taking pursuit angles to make the tackle. Niksic stays with his man in coverage where he causes incompletions by delivering a hard hit and getting his hands in the WR basket deflecting the pass.
Aiden Wise (22′ LB/RB) Richards – 3.0 GPA
Wise takes solid pursuit angles and wraps up to bring the ballcarrier down. He fills holes in run support and gets pressure on the QB when he blitzes. Wise also isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder to deliver a hit which goes hand in hand with his attacking play-style.
Notables:
Ethan Pryor (22’ FS/WR) TF South – 2.8 GPA
Qumori Johnson (22′ CB) TF South – 2.8 GPA
This Legacy 2022 team is going to cause problems when they start competing. Each of these players makes plays for their respected teams and aren’t going to disappoint in this shortened season. I would like to thank the Legacy 7 on 7 staff for their hospitality and for having me out for their practice. They have a great program that focuses on developing kids for the next level and preparing them for life after football.
