Continue ReadingAs we are updating our rankings list here at Prepredzone, we have a few prospects to look for in the classes of 2024 and 2025. These athletes are among the elite few and ones that will prove to be names to know in the future. Some may even grab the national spotlight. That’s how good the talent and skillset is of players of the great state of Texas is able to produce. When you look at the big picture– it is amazing how many colleges recruit our athletes. At Prepredzone our mission is always simple– to cover as many prospects as possible. That being said not everyone makes our list and only a select few are chosen to be featured. Athletes we know may not always be a division I talent but still deserve a spotlight. That being said these athletes listed are some high-caliber players and some that are “under the radar “. Let’s take a look at who made our list.
Zion Taylor ( 24 )| 6-2 DE / OLB | Ridge Point HS
Zion is the next elite defensive end to be featured out of Texas. I love his size and stature for his age. He looks like a tall, athletically built, speed rusher off the edge, who is only going to get, bigger, faster, stronger, as years go by. Terrific burst off the ball, he is able to beat defenders with his speed and hand moves to get into the backfield in a flash. He can then swatt the ball with tremendous vertical ability and a long wingspan. Consistently shows he can rack up tackles for loss and or QB hurries/sacks. FBS type of prospect with a high ceiling.
Mike Moshier ( 25 ) | 5-8 QB | Alamo Heights HS
This guy has a rifle of an arm. When I see him throw, his throwing form and the dexterity of his arm, the way his toe is pointed to the target, and then the follow through on the throw. It’s like watching a pitcher in the bullpen or the mound throwing strikes and then hearing the sound of the pop of the catcher’s glove catching the ball. That is what it is like to receive a pass from this QB. He throws strikes and puts good velocity on the ball. His footwork and mechanics will improve over time. But overall very impressed by the strength of this young QBs arm.
JB Baker ( 25 ) | 5-10 WR / DB | Cornerstone Christian HS
Obviously, if you make this list you have some type of size and or the athletic ability for being so youthful. Well JB impresses with his, tall lengthy frame. He’s got long arms and legs and is able to build speed with his long strides. What stood out the most was his ability to run routes and stop on a dime, his hands, and his awareness of the field. Baker should prove to be a name to know for years to come and possibly be a top FBS/FCS prospect.
Braylon Thomas ( 24 ) | 5-10 DB | West Columbia HS
Received his first division one offer the first month of the year from UAB. Many more to come for this talented athlete. What sets Braylon apart is his elite speed and ability to cover the entire defensive backfield. You could play one safety high and he could manage the entire field by himself. I recently saw him in person at a 7v7 tournament and was very impressed by his play and maturity.
Maybrey Mettauer ( 24 ) | 6-5 QB | The Woodlands HS
Wow. You won’t find a more young talent quarterback there than Maybrey. This guy looks like the next Trevor Lawrence, literally. But the question is can he play like him? The answer is –he might be better. Dual-threat, with size and a strong arm. His size and ability will make him among one of the top quarterbacks in the nation and should represent Texas very well I believe. His hudl account already has thousands of views. ( 11,000 +). Don’t wait to check this guy out before it’s too late. No one likes being the last one to the part because then you like a bandwagon fan. But don’t take my word for his abilities. Take a look for yourself.
Wyatt Young ( 24 ) | 6-0 QB | Tompkins HS
Elite speed and arm strength. A true dual-threat QB, he should grow and build up more as years go by, but his ability and those intangible qualities are there. Plays with toughness and confidence, and is not afraid to tuck the ball and run with it. Shows he can make defenders miss in the open, field. He looked like a running back with a quarterback’s arm and ability. He can throw the ball 30 to 40 plus yards with ease off-balance rolling out to either side.
Hauss Hejny ( 24 ) | 5-11 QB | All Saints Episcopal HS
Great quarterback mechanics and footwork. Delivery is on point and he can deliver strikes while trolling outside of the pocket. He can hit receivers in the middle of the field or throw a bomb down the middle of the field. Rarely needs to leave the pocket because his timing with receivers is impeccable. Plays with one of the well-respected high schools in Texas and will receive tremendous coaching.
Marcos Davila ( 24 ) | 6-4 QB | Midland Lee HS
If his size doesn’t impress at 6-4. His play and his arm will. So far all of the quarterbacks on my list have shown impressive mechanics and footwork but none impress more than Marcos. He must be working with a quarterbacks coach as I am sure most of these top QBs are on the list. Marcos shows elite ability throwing and running, runs his offense like a pro offense out of the spread would. Precise timing routes and ability to hit receivers in stride. Another elite QB among the class of 2024. FBS style prospect with a high ceiling.
JC Evans ( 24 ) | 6-4 QB | Brandeis HS
JC is a strong-armed quarterback that will be a name to know coming out of the San Antonio Area. He plays for one of San Antonio’s powerhouses and will receive good coaching. His size is very impressive. I have had a chance to meet and see JC play in person and his arm and decision-making abilities are outstanding. This should be a feature prospect who will prove to be highly recruited.
Godspower Nwawuihe ( 24 ) | 5-11 QB | North Garland HS
Playmaker with dangerous speed. His speed and agility and ability to throw the ball make him one tough opponent to game plan for because he can leave defenders in the dust or throw one over their heads. This guy is going to prove to be unstable. His film was a joy to watch and he seemed to be reminiscent of a Mike Vike running around the field with the ball, making plays with his legs or arm.
Jordan Johnson Jordan Johnson 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Allen | 2021 TX -Rubell ( 24 ) | 5-11 DB | Brewer HS
A terrific defensive back who can get out of his hips, trail receivers, and get his head around to make a play on the ball. He shows the speed to cover the field and keep up with fast receivers. I like his size and physically on the field, a good open-field tackler that brings the wood. Coaches this is a corner who can cover the pass just as well as the run. Good open-field tackler and brings a spark to the defense.
Tristian Bennett ( 24 ) | 6-0 DL | Trinity Christian HS
Tristian is a beast of the edge. He is a build like a man amongst boys. He has great stature, I like his stance and his terrific burst off the ball. The way he is able to shoot himself into the backfield seemingly untouched is amazing. He looks like a young Shawn Merriman coming off the end. Coaches I’m not kidding, this kid will be a beast for years to come and he is only going to get better. Future FBS prospect with a high ceiling for success in college.
