The Players Corner: Jason Hogan, RB-Lemon Bay High
In this article:
The Players corner is a series where I get to sit down and interview prospects in the Bay Area. It’s a fun way to get to know some of these players outside of just evaluating them. We at Prep Redzone Florida want to bring you all-access into these players, it’s important to get to know them as individuals and what makes them great on the field! This series will give you the ability to get under the helmet and see what makes these prospects click and gives you behind the scenes coverage.
Jason Hogan is a running back that doesn’t get talked about enough, he had an outstanding season for Lemon Bay this year rushing over 1300 yards and 26 touchdowns. Hogan is a one-cut back that does a good job on outside-zone feeling his way through traffic and then accelerates through the hole quickly, he has good vision and patience, and does a really good job reading his blocks, he also shows the ability to drop his shoulder and deliver hit and run through arm tackles. Hogan is not only a good football player, but he’s a very good student as well, sporting a 3.4 GPA.

Q-Talk about your junior season. What did you learn from it?
JH- During my Junior year of High School I learned the importance of loyalty and ambition. The loyalty of my teammates is what drove my ambition to be the best for them. I was put to the task to lead the offense. When that time came I knew I had to step up. The season prior I had the chance to play quarterback and defensive back because of the unseen events of our senior quarterback getting hurt. During my Sophomore season I had 583 passing yards and 603 rushing yards.
Q-Tell me about last season and how you did?
JH-My stats for Junior season 2020 were 1300+ rushing yards, 26 touchdowns and 1500+ all purpose yards
Q-Who is your biggest role model and guide in your life?
JH-My greatest role model is my grandmother who we call Granny. She has always pushed me to be a better person and believed in me.
Q-Biggest strengths in your game currently?
JH-My biggest strength is breaking tackles, and communication with my team. My current weakness and biggest focus right now is being impatient and committing to a hole before scanning for all my options.
Q-Any offers yet?
JH-The biggest colleges that have reached out to me so far are USF, Wake Forest, and Duke
Q-Talk about what it was like to play for Coach Southwell?
JH- Playing for my coach has been a experience I am most grateful for. We share a lot of similarities which would normally cause a clash between a player and coach but it makes me respect him more. My coach sees greatness in me and pushes me to be the best player I can be. When we perform to his high standard on the football field and in the weight room we earn his respect. He holds me to a standard I didn’t think was possible and it only gets higher causing me to work harder everyday.
Q-What what is like preparing this season with all the covid issues?
JH-When preparing for the football season 2020 we didn’t know if we’d get to play because of COVID. At first we had to wear a mask while practicing which was very challenging. Having a mouth piece, mask and helmet on in the Florida heat.
Q-Personally, what is your ultimate goal with the game of football whether it be on the field or off of it?
JH- My ultimate goal is to have college paid for from playing.
Quick Hitters:
Favorite player to watch: My favorite player to watch is Derrick Henry. Watching his energy and skills on the field are very inspiring to do better and push myself to new limits.
Playlist before a game: Before a game I really listen to what ever, from County to Rap. I just listen to feel the beat to forget about the day and focus on the game.
