There were many dominant rushing performances in 7A this season. 7A is full of many great running backs from the classes of 2021 and 2022. Let’s take a look at the top rushing yards leaders from this past season. These players can add value to programs at the next level.
[player_tooltip player_id="33667" first="Cody" last="Brown"], Class of 2021, Parkview Brown balled out for Parkview this year and led 7A in rushing yards this season. He played 12 games, rushed for 1,527 yards on 212 carries, and had 12 touchdowns. He was the definition of reliable for Parkview, averaging 7.2 yards per carry. He’s strong, can run through contact. He carried defenders all season long, on multiple plays he gained extra yards. He has good stamina and maintains his play throughout the game. Tennessee is getting a very good player in Brown. Jayden Bolton, Class of 2021, East Coweta The second-leading rusher in 7A was Bolton from East Coweta. In 11 games, he rushed for 1,400 yards on 179 carries and 17 touchdowns. He was a big factor in moving the chains for East Coweta, averaging 7.7 yards per carry. He has good straight-line speed, being able to separate from second-level defenders. He’s a home run hitter and it’s no surprise that he was also in the top 5 for rushing touchdowns in 7A. He is a smaller back with nice sized quads. It definitely helps him be explosive off the snap. He has received offers from Tennessee Valley and Reinhardt. Jordan McDonald, Class of 2022, Milton The third-leading rusher was McDonald, who rushed for 1,338 yards on 211 carries in 11 games. He was a touchdown machine, racking up 24 touchdowns this year. He led 7A in touchdowns. He did a lot with his carries, averaging 6.3 yards per carry. McDonald has good vision and does a great job running in between the tackles. At 6’1” and 215 pounds, he is a great combination of size and speed. After a great junior year, it is no surprise that he already has offers from schools like Florida State and Georgia Tech. [player_tooltip player_id="33903" first="Keith" last="Adams Jr"]., Class of 2022, Cherokee Adams was a stud for Cherokee, ending the season as the fourth leading rusher in 7A. In 10 games, he rushed for 1,313 yards on 205 carries and had 14 touchdowns. Also, he averaged 6.4 yards per carry, keeping drives alive. Adams has the speed to pull away from second-level defenders. Adams has quick feet and can change direction and elude defenders. His outstanding play in high school so far has already gotten him offers from Georgia Southern, Middle Tennessee State, and South Florida. Nyle Ervin, Class of 2021, Duluth Ervin rounds out the top 5 leading rushers coming in at fifth. Ervin played 10 games, rushing for 1,252 yards on 140 carries and 11 touchdowns. He made the most of his carriers this season, averaging 8.9 yards per carry. Ervin has great vision, he is shifty and can make defenders miss. While he only caught 14 passes for 177 yards this season, he has the build to be a good receiver out of the backfield. He has not committed to where he is playing next year yet but he has received offers from Sterling, Bethany, and Otterbein.
