There were tons of programs affected across the country by COVID-19 and many Missouri high schools were hit hard. But other schools were able to persevere and players on those squads took their games to the next level. Here are three QBs who jumped up big time from the preseason to post-season rankings.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="37176" first="Conrad" last="Hawley"], Raymore-Peculiar (From No. 23 to No. 2)
No player improved his stock more his senior year in Missouri than Hawley. Not only did he lead his team to a state championship, but he went from a lowly recruited player to one of the most sought after prospects in Missouri. Committed to Kansas, Hawley has size, poise and cannon to hit the deep ball with touch.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="37241" first="Cael" last="Welker"], Jackson (From No. 88 to No. 16)
Welker has be a consistently productive player for the past three seasons but really came on his senior season. Comparable to former Missouri CBC QB Brett Gabbert, now a starter at Miami of Ohio, Welker is accurate on the move, tough as nails and a fiery leader. Guys want to play with Welker and his championship pedigree will serve a college program well.
QB [player_tooltip player_id="37297" first="Gabe" last="Serri"], St. Dominic (From No. 145 to No. 126)
Serri was ranked player headed into the season but multiple times during 2020, the senior was named a MVP player for his weekly performances. Serri is energetic, a viable run threat and has improved his release speed and arm strength with countless hours in the gym. Serri has the ability to play safety as well because he is that good of an athlete but as a college QB, as the rankings show, his ceiling is still high.
