Our new 2022 prospect rankings are live! We will be breaking down our rankings in the coming weeks position by position, diving deep into what made the scouts, including myself, place players where we did. In today’s piece, we will be breaking down the top ten quarterback prospects on our newly released 2022 player rankings. 2022 Quarterbacks 10. [player_tooltip player_id="27670" first="Max" last="Mosey"] 6’1", 180lbs, Central Dauphin Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/10685098/Max-Mosey Central Dauphin’s [player_tooltip player_id="27670" first="Max" last="Mosey"] played in 6 games this past season, accumulating 1100+ passing yards along with 14 total touchdowns, propelling himself into top ten quarterback talk amongst Pennsylvania scouts. The lefty displays serious vertical threat ability. His deep ball placement and touch are on par with some of the best quarterbacks in his class. Mosey doesn’t carry the most athletic build or playstyle, yet shows the consistent ability to escape the pocket and come up with yards with his feet. He isn’t elusive either, but he’ll give you his best shot at making defenders miss. Fluid drop back out of shotgun. Displays the ability to step up into the pocket without taking his eyes off his reads. Solid overall pocket/pressure awareness. His throwing mechanics stay tight on the move, allowing him to still make accurate throws when sprinting away from pressure. Adept at reading the seams, can chuck the ball 40+ yards with ease. Mosey displays a slow start-up after receiving the snap far too often. He tends to stop moving his feet or start his drop back late which can dip off the best defenses that he is going deep. Tends to keep the ball too low below the chest plate, would like to see him be locked and loaded at all times to deliver on time passes all around the field, not just deep. His eyes tend to dart around when pressured and there’s a serious hitch in his drop back. These are all coaching points and areas Mosey is capable of fixing. 9. [player_tooltip player_id="94872" first="Tanner" last="Maddocks"] 6’1", 180lbs, Fleetwood Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11004314/Tanner-Maddocks Watching the seven games played by [player_tooltip player_id="94872" first="Tanner" last="Maddocks"] this past season left me thinking how special this player could be if he could clean up the small things at quarterback. Our ninth-ranked 2022 quarterback has a ton of areas to work on. It is rare to see a clean and fluid drop back when watching his tape. Maddocks mechanics tend to be all over the place. His feet are hardly squared up before or after the release of the football which is vital when attempting to be accurate. There’s a ton of tapping/patting of the football during his dropback, as well as dropping the football once disconnecting from off-hand. Maddocks fades away far too often after the release of the football even when stationary. The dual-threat prospect also has a knack for letting the ball drift away from his body when on the run. All of these aspects may question whether Maddocks is merely an athlete at the quarterback position but that is not so. Maddocks has so much room to grow and is still a highly touted and special player despite flaws. He is absolutely magical on the run. Has an inept ability to scan the field at all times, finding open targets consistently while avoiding pressure. Arm strength and velocity is there, would consider his arm special. Would also consider him to be a serious dual-threat prospect as well as a productive defensive back and special teams contributor. Maddocks has a knack for making spectacular plays look easy. His ability to make defenders miss in the backfield allows him to find yards when they aren’t there. There’s no coaching some of the things he does. Get this kid to clean up the essentials at quarterback and we may see an even bigger boost in our rankings come July. 8. [player_tooltip player_id="27620" first="Marqui" last="Adams"] 6’1", 182lbs, Saints John Neumann & Maria Goretti Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11806652/Marqui-Adams Admittedly, [player_tooltip player_id="27620" first="Marqui" last="Adams"]’ stock took a hit because of the lack of film this past season due to the lack of play in the Philadelphia area thanks to COVID-19. Nonetheless, just one look at his film as a body of work makes us excited to see what Adams has in store this coming season. Love his poise in the pocket, he stands tall and ready to fire at all times. Adams’ is a tad slow winding up and getting the ball from below the shoulder to above but I love his compact follow-through that remains consistent no matter the pressure. Shows a natural arm talent, displaying he is capable of launching the ball 50+ yards downfield without a deep hitch and with pressure in his face. The consistent mechanics allow for Adams’ to be accurate and on time on a variety of throws, as well as attacking vertically, hitting his targets in stride without drifting the ball inside or outside. Displays quick feet in his drop back and in the open field, where he can show off some serious speed if he has open field in front of him. [player_tooltip player_id="27620" first="Marqui" last="Adams"] has intrigued scouts since his stellar sophomore campaign. We expect big things from the soon to be senior this coming season. 7. [player_tooltip player_id="27707" first="Max" last="Blanc"] 6’5", 200lbs, Bethel Park Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11618193/Max-Blanc The first thing that pops out watching Blanc is his awesome size. Perfect height and weight combination that translates well to the next level. He carries a build that will be able to withstand constant hits from defenders. Blanc checks all the prototypical quarterback boxes that a college coach could ask. Everything from his wind-up, to follow through, to footwork and release, everything is on point. The only slight nit-pick is a tendency to sink into his back foot far too deep to build up velocity on tight throws. This is normal at this level. This equates to a highly accurate passer who loves to get into a rhythm through the short passing game. Blanc shows a great ability to make subtle movements in the pocket to change his launch point and avoid pressure. This is an advanced trait that not too many high school quarterbacks in the state have. There’s an obvious lack of spectacular plays on tape. A lack of spectacular/special plays is not something that will turn off scouts or recruits. Blanc runs the offense accordingly as the Bethel Park gameplan would rather hit short to intermediate routes based on timing and rhythm. He shows the ability to be disciplined and decisive with the ball, these traits are great for a quarterback to have especially in an offense that prefers to get the ball into their playmakers’ hands as quickly as possible. Blanc is a prospect that can be molded at the next level and we expect college coaches and recruits to be drooling over this kid’s potential. 6. [player_tooltip player_id="87823" first="Joey" last="Daniels"] 5’10", 175lbs, Mt. Lebanon Hudl Profile: https://www.hudl.com/profile/11425281/Joey-Daniels Listed as the shortest player of our entire 2022 QB class, there’s big game under the pads of Mt. Lebanon’s [player_tooltip player_id="87823" first="Joey" last="Daniels"]. Our first quarterback on this list to crack the top 100 with Adams coming in at 102 and Blanc just missing the cut at 101. Our 98th ranked ’22 prospect boasted a stellar 70% completion percentage this past season while throwing for 1000+ yards and scoring 14 touchdowns to pair. Daniels’ anticipation on throws and natural feel for where and when the ball should come out is what puts him ahead slightly of Adams and Blanc. His downfield vision is special. A consistent drop back combined with good timing in his hitches allows for Daniels to make throws on time in multiple styles of reads. Crossers, seams, vertical routes, he is trusted to be on time and deliver a catchable ball which he does well for Mt. Lebanon. He may be small in stature but is more than willing to stay in the pockey and take a beating to make throws. His mobility is a plus. Does a great job keeping his eyes and ball up all the while avoiding would-be pressure. Best arm strength of the group which may come as a surprise given his frame. When he wants to drive the ball, he DRIVES it. It at times takes all of his might and he puts a ton of his body into each throw, more time in the weight room will alleviate that. [player_tooltip player_id="87823" first="Joey" last="Daniels"] knows what he excels at and sticks to it. We look forward to watching him continue his career and climb our ranks.
