We have a deep defensive back class. With our updated rankings, 9 of the 10 DB’s are ranked inside the Top 50.
[table id=79 /]
There was quite a bit of movement for the DB’s adding new guys inside the Top 10. [player_tooltip player_id="27554" first="Keenan" last="Nelson Jr."] still held onto the top spot and the 3rd overall ranked player. [player_tooltip player_id="27593" first="Mario" last="Easterly"] is one of the new DB’s inside the Top 10. He took the second spot over [player_tooltip player_id="27561" first="Patrick" last="Body"]. Mario is the number 1 safety. At 3-5, all players are corners. Patrick is at the 3 spot who didn’t let up a single reception in 5 games. [player_tooltip player_id="27573" first="Raleigh" last="Collins"] at 4, who has great size. Raleigh is also an extremely physical corner. He is a highly recruited player but think he is still below Patrick because he only played 1 game this season and there was no way of telling if he improved from last year or not. The 5th DB is new to the rankings as well. [player_tooltip player_id="69461" first="Geovanny" last="Fabian"] and his team did not play this season because of Covid-19, but his sophomore tape proved he belongs into the Top 5. If he had played, believed he could have easily moved up a spot or two. At 6-8 all are safeties. Two of the safeties are from Pittsburgh Central Catholic. [player_tooltip player_id="27577" first="JD" last="Younger"] at 6 beating out [player_tooltip player_id="27582" first="Devin" last="Barren"] at 8 because JD has shown to be productive these last 2 years. Devin could play safety or corner though. Devin did move up in the rankings quite a bit because of how well he played this year. At 7, is [player_tooltip player_id="27685" first="Deontae" last="Williams"]. He plays QB and most of his junior tape is at the quarterback position but will be a safety at the next level. An argument could be made between Devin and Deontae with being 7 or 8. [player_tooltip player_id="27609" first="D’Angelo" last="Stocker"] at 9 could probably play corner or safety as well and did land at the 50th overall player. Lastly, [player_tooltip player_id="98503" first="Kareem" last="Lewis"] at 10 who just was on the outside of the Top 50, will most likely be a boundary safety.
<strong> </strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="27619" first="Jamir" last="Reyes"]</strong> is just on the outside of the top 10, ranked 12th. Quite a few schools from the Philadelphia area did not play this season because of Covid-19. Based on his sophomore tape, he has good size. He shows good break and acceleration. He lacks overall top end speed. He really needs to improve as a tackler. Jamir is a safety. Would have been interesting to see how he improved this season and if he could have cracked into the top 10.
<strong> </strong>
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="69460" first="Kolin" last="Dinkins"]</strong> does not have much junior film but shows potential of being a good defensive back. He has good size. Shows good ball skills who made an incredible interception during the WPIAL Championship game. He does hold an FCS offer. Could see his recruitment heat up a little if there are camps this summer. He is a guy that you are going to want to keep an eye on for next season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="95849" first="Alex" last="Tecza"]</strong> is another safety. He has good size that shows quickness and good speed. He is physical who shows to be a good wrap-up tackler. Alex is a good player and his recruitment should continue to go up. He is a smart kid who already has 2 Ivy League offers.
