As the Martin Luther King holiday begins, plenty of attention will be focused on south Florida. With many activities going on nationally, there will be a spotlight shining on this area – as nearly 100 top senior football players from Florida and Georgia are out to get this prestigious game off the ground once again. As the teams arrived on Thursday, both practiced twice at Traz Powell Stadium – the site of this year’s game. Scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff on Sunday. After arriving in Miami at the spacious Even Hotel – Team Florida and Team Georgia had the chance to get started preparing. The game, which is rekindling the tradition that this match up once held in Orlando, Atlanta, Daytona Beach among other places, is getting things started in this ‘border war” with plenty of talent on display. On Thursday, Team Florida and head coach Lamont Green and Team Georgia and head coach Robert Edwards III showcased some very impressive talent – many who have already signed – while other players are hoping that this game will provide that much-needed forum. There is no getting around that this was a tough year for everyone – with Covid truly cutting into plenty of dreams. FIRST DAYS STANDOUTS There were some impressive players in action on the first day. For Team Florida, TRU Prep Academy linebacker [player_tooltip player_id="32909" first="Emile" last="Aime"], headed to FSU, stepped up on Day 1. So did fellow linebackers Edgerrin Gavins (Southwest Miami) and Dustin Viñas (Miami Christopher Columbus). TRU Prep Kicker [player_tooltip player_id="32713" first="John" last="Cannon"], a USF signee, was impressive with his kicks – all off the ground, from 50 plus. Miami Killian defensive linemen Khavon Harris and Miami Christopher Columbus [player_tooltip player_id="32896" first="Kesean" last="Norris-Hayes"] looked solid as well. University of Miami TE signee [player_tooltip player_id="32690" first="Kahlil" last="Brantley"] (Miami Northwestern) and FIU signee [player_tooltip player_id="32844" first="Demetrius" last="Hill"] (CB, Miami Springs) were also solid. Others catching the eye on the first day included Marquez Bargman (OG, Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast, USF signee Cole Best (OL, Winter Park Trinity Christian), Colin Blazek (QB, Venice), FIU defensive end signee [player_tooltip player_id="32746" first="Keegan" last="Davis"] (Port St. Lucie Treasure Coast), Dwayne Harris (CB, Lake Wales), Lawrence Jones Jr (WR, Sanford Seminole), Taylor Jones (TE, Sanford Seminole), [player_tooltip player_id="32770" first="Kiael" last="Kelly"] (QB, Tampa Gaither), Dominic Larry (Slot WR, Tallahassee Lincoln), T.J. Lee (DL, Gadsden County) and Jaquez Moore (RB, Live Oak Suwannee), DeAndre Robinson (DL, Orlando Olympia), [player_tooltip player_id="32648" first="Trevonte" last="Rucker"] (WR, Ocala Vanguard) and Christopher Williams (OT, Tallahassee Rickards) to name a few. TEAM GEORGIA LOOKS IMPRESSIVE The stars were certainly shining in south Florida on Thursday. Team Georgia, stacked with talent, boasted prospects such as [player_tooltip player_id="93921" first="Brandon" last="Adams"] (CB,S, Arabia Mountain), [player_tooltip player_id="33693" first="Khalil" last="Anderson"] (CB/S, Riverwood International Charter), Ameron Bergeron (DB, Westover), standout [player_tooltip player_id="33697" first="Leo" last="Blackburn"] Jr. (WR, Westlake), [player_tooltip player_id="33747" first="Zy" last="Brockington"] (DE, Colquitt County), Jonathan Brown (DE/TE, Riverwood International Charter), [player_tooltip player_id="33658" first="Victoine" last="Brown"] II (DE, Grayson), Cal Camp (QB, Morgan County), Montavious Cunningham (OT/DT, Clarke Central), [player_tooltip player_id="33750" first="Omar" last="Daniels"] (DB, Colquitt), Dante Tidwell Edwards (WR/RB, North Murray), Corbin LaFrance (QB, Kell), [player_tooltip player_id="33702" first="Devin" last="Lee"] (DL, Ola), Stratton Tripp (QB, Cartersville) and Jaheim Ward (DB, Colquitt County) to name a few. You Can Contact Larry Blustein with prospect or team information at: Foridakids1@aol.com.
