The 2020 season was full of surprises and uncertainty. That did not impact these defensive players as they were named First-Team in Group 4. DL: Luke Doerr-Fredrickson (2021) | West Morris Fredrickson finished the season with 14 sacks. He was a menace along the defensive line and turned into one of the best pass rushers in the state. DL: [player_tooltip player_id="27890" first="Louce" last="Julien"] (2021) | Orange Julien filled up the stat sheet this season by doing it all. He totaled 33 tackles, 12 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries, and an interception. Julien had the ability to play anywhere on the line and ruin an offensive game plan. DL: [player_tooltip player_id="27886" first="Zaire" last="Angoy"] (2021) | Irvington Angoy is a massive body along the line. He is an incredible athlete who knows how to use his speed and strength to gain advantage. The Rutgers commit will be an impact performer at the next level. DL: [player_tooltip player_id="27883" first="Mike" last="Jarvis"] (2021) | Shawnee Jarvis is another name that is going to be a force in the Big Ten. The Wisconsin commit totaled double-digit tackles in the first and last game of the season in 2020. LB: [player_tooltip player_id="27867" first="Mikai" last="Gbayor"] (2021) | Irvington Gbayor led Irvington’s defense from the linebacker position. He finished with 13 tackles and two sacks in a game against Pope John this season. His numbers were eye-popping but he has to be seen in person to fully understand his ability. Nebraska is getting a good one in the Irvington product. LB: Emeril Mitchell (2022) | Winslow Mitchell played six games this season and finished with 78 tackles. He was a complete ballhawk that totaled double-digit tackles five times. This includes 16 in the opener against Camden and 17 against Eastern. LB: LaQuint Allen (2022) | Millville Allen scored 10 touchdowns on the ground and dominated on the defensive end for Millville. He entered the season as one of the top players in the group and that will continue during his senior year. LB: Dan Daly (2021) | Wayne Hills Daly finished with double-digit tackles in all but one game this season. He was as sure of a tackler as there was. Ball carriers were unable to get away from Daly in the open field. DB: Al-Jay Henderson (2021) | Irvington Irvington had a First-Team selection at all three levels. It continues with Henderson in the secondary. He doubled as a running back and knew how to use his speed on the defensive side of the ball. DB: [player_tooltip player_id="27866" first="Jalen" last="Cheek"] (2021) | Winslow Cheek will be patrolling the secondary for Boston College moving forward. The Eagles are getting a defensive back with great closing speed and the ability to make up ground quickly. DB: Jake Chapman (2021) | Cranford Chapman finished with two interceptions and two kick returns for a touchdown this season. He showed an ability to do whatever was asked. This was thanks to his versatility on both sides of the ball. UTIL: Yah-Sin Calhoun (2021) | Freehold Boro Calhoun put up some of the best numbers of any defensive back. He was near the tp of the state with six interceptions and finished with 113 tackles. Calhoun was a huge part of Freehold Boro’s game plan on both sides. UTIL: John Testa (2021) | Wayne Valley Testa led Wayne Valley’s defense from Week 1. He was a centerpiece of the team and kept things running smoothly. P: Jordan Thiel (2021) | Wayne Hills Thiel was an extremely important player for Wayne Hills in many ways this season. He earned First-Team nods because of his ability with his leg.
