Recruiting has been heating up in the PNW. From every level of college football, more Oregon athletes have been drawing attention their way. Take a look at 5 players that have been heating up in their recruitment as of late: Donovon Benson, 6’0" 230lbs, DL/TE, Willamette HS Benson has been seeing offers flying in as of late. He recently racked up his 24th offer from Prep School Pac West Academy. He has been a major D3-NAIA prospect picking up notable offers from McPherson College, Finlandia University, University of La Verne, and many others. For a kid who has yet to play his senior season, he is sure seeing a ton of attention. Benson shows good upper and lower body strength at DT, and has shown on film to overpower opponents and make his way into the backfield. He’s shown flashes of athletic hands to disengage from blocks. He could improve his initial get off, but has many tools to build off of at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="28735" first="Brody" last="Reese"], 6’3" 295lbs, OL/DL, Century HS Reese recently landed a PWO from the University of Washington, and has been a major D2-FCS prospect. He landed his first D1 offer from Valparaiso University back in July, and his recruitment continues to sky rocket. Reese landed an in-state offer from Western Oregon University about 2 weeks ago, and a D1 offer from the University of San Diego back in October. Other notable offers are Northern Colorado and Linfield University. Reese brings excellent physicality and violent hands to the table. Also a top wrestler in the state, Reese has excellent athleticism for a big man and is only scratching the surface of his potential. Excellent upper and lower body strength with solid power, and is a violent player all around. Watch out for this kid this upcoming season. [player_tooltip player_id="28788" first="Slade" last="Shufelt"], 6’3" 225lbs, ATH, Hillsboro HS Shufelt was most recently offered by the College of Idaho, and received his first D1 offer from Valparaiso University about a week ago. He holds notable other offers from D3, D2, and NAIA programs such as University of Minnesota Morris, George Fox, Linfield University, Hamilton College, and Presentation College. Shufelt shows excellent upper body strength and violent hands, as he’s shown the ability to take on double teams and make plays. He possesses excellent short area quickness with solid flexibility and bend to either serve as a lethal pass rusher or be effective in stunts on blitz packages. He could definitely see more offers coming soon. [player_tooltip player_id="28719" first="Keenan" last="O’Donnell"], 6’5" 330lbs, DL/OL, Thurston HS O’Donnell was recently offered by Southern Oregon University and Western Oregon University less than a week apart. He picked up another offer in early December from Linfield College and should see his recruitment spark up even more with the season upcoming. O’Donnell has a giant frame with a thick base with good length and reach. He’s a powerful kid and holds ground well on both sides of the ball. Often plugs the middle and swallows up ball carriers with his length. O’Donnell has solid size and strength overall and can build and develop dramatically at the next level. Gabe Burchfield, 6'4" 185lbs, Hidden Valley HS Burchfield was recently offered by Pacific University, Linfield University, and took a visit to Western Oregon. He has solid length and reach, and does a great job as a down TE in the run game. He utilizes his reach to get solid leverage on opponents and has deceptive lower body strength, as he often drives heavier opponents backward. He does a good job selling blocks then sneaking into his route to find the sweet spot in zone coverages. As a DB, he tackles with a low pad level and has made some clutch tackles at CB. He tracks the ball well and shows good ball skills overall. He's a basketball standout as well which naturally gives him tools to build off of at TE.
