Continue ReadingWe took a deep dive and looked at some of the best 2023 prospects from both Washington D.C. and Maryland. There are prospects featured in this piece that are already on many college program’s radars and some that soon will be. The spring season can’t come soon enough for these guys, as they’re more than ready to show what they got as sophomores.
Alex Willis Alex Willis 6'5" | 305 lbs | OL Long Reach | 2023 State MD , 6’5, 295, Long Reach
Willis has a good mixture of size and athletic ability for an offensive lineman. He can block down on a double team on a three-technique and can even get out on the perimeter and block in the screen game. On tape, he plays with great knee bend and will roll his hips to get maximum force behind it. He held his own on varsity as a freshman, I’m excited to see what year two holds, as he could blossom into a very good offensive line recruit.
Asa Gregg, 6’2, 185, St. Johns
An outside receiver, who can sink his hips at the top of his route and will work back to the football with no issues. Gregg is tough when catching the football in traffic and can take a shot from opposing defenders. He’ll lull you to sleep with slow route tempo, before accelerating past defenders. Climbing the ladder is no problem, as he made multiple grabs on high passes that looked like they were going to be overthrows. I’ll definitely have my eye on him as he develops over the next three seasons.
Tamarus Walker Tamarus Walker 6'4" | 285 lbs | OL McDonogh | 2023 State MD , 6’2, 285, McDonogh
Even as just a freshman, you could see the upside of Mr. Walker. The aggression and mindset of this kid is special. When he blocks you, he’s not just trying to open up the hole, he’s trying to burry you into the turf. Walker plays with good hand placement on the breastplate and features a solid initial punch. He plays guard right now and I think he projects there or as a center at the next level.
Jason Moore Jason Moore 6'6" | 255 lbs | DL Dematha | 2023 State MD , 6’6, 265, DeMatha
True high school defensive ends aren’t supposed to look like Mr. Moore and the majority can’t play like him either. At 6’6, 265 he’s got a great get-off, impressive bend, and strong hands. Moore is explosive off the edge and can unlock his hips to defeat opposing tackles. He does a good job keeping his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage when unblocked and has shown he can chase plays down from the backside. He uses his strong paws to get extension on offensive linemen to effortlessly fight off blocks in the run game. Already holding about a dozen FBS offers, I think Moore should be one of the most heavily recruited prospects in the country by the time he’s a senior.
