The peach state is absolutely loaded with defensive backs, and many of the state’s best are in the 2023 class. It’s a very deep group and many of them have already earned Power 5 offers with two more years on high school football.
Here are a few 2023 defensive backs in the Atlanta are to know for the 2021 season.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="97098" first="Ethan" last="Nation"] - Roswell</strong>
Arguably the hottest prospect in the country right now, the ball-hawking Roswell Hornet has recently picked up offers from Georgia, Auburn, USC, Miami, South Carolina, Oregon, among others. The 6-foot-0 170-pounder intercepted 8 passes last year in just 8 games and proved that he’s one of the top young cornerbacks in the South. He has exceptional ball skills and knows how to locate the football in the air as well as anyone in the Atlanta area. He has good speed and closes well when the ball is in the air. Nation is full of potential and extremely coachable. If he continues to add weight while developing his craft, Nation has a chance to be one of the top 2023 CB prospects in the country. Last fall, Nation recorded 19 tackles with 8 interceptions.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="34015" first="Caleb" last="Downs"] - Mill Creek</strong>
One of the state’s top defensive backs regardless of class, the Hoschton native in Gwinnett County has 5-star potential down the road. The 5-foot-11 180-pound safety was a playmaking machine for the Hawks last year, making 57 tackles and 4 INTs. Downs also broke up 14 passes. Downs was named 2nd-Team All State as a sophomore last season and consistently found a way to make critical plays with the game on the line. He’s a true playmaker from the safety position as he can cover the back end but also come down into the box to help against the run. He’s physical, knows how to tackle, and already has the frame pf a Power 5 defensive back. He looks the part and has the film to back up his high ranking.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="34007" first="Avieon" last="Terrell"] - Westlake</strong>
In West Atlanta is where you’ll find another athletic cornerback in Westlake’s [player_tooltip player_id="34007" first="Avieon" last="Terrell"]. The 5-foot-10 190-pounder is another fundamentally-sound cornerback who is constantly working to perfect his craft. He is the younger brother of current Atlanta Falcon cornerback AJ Terrell, so Avieon knows what it takes to play at the next level and possibly on Sundays. He’s a playmaker who is technically sound and already holds offers from Clemson, Georgia, Florida, among others.
<strong>[player_tooltip player_id="34043" first="Daiquan" last="White"] - Creekside</strong>
At 5-foot-11 170-pounds, White is one of the top cover-corners in the region. He’s got excellent footwork, great burst, and knows how to turn and run. He knows how to stay in the hip over a bigger receiver and continues to get better by the day. He’s a hard-working player with natural DB instincts who loves to compete. The Fairburn native currently holds offers from FSU, Arkansas, Georgia Tech, among others. He’s easily a Power 5 talent and should blanket receivers in the Atlanta area for the next two seasons. As a sophomore last fall, White made 35 tackles and picked off three passes.
