After withdrawing his commitment from UCLA on December 7, Serra (Gardena) defensive back [player_tooltip player_id="25054" first="Devin" last="Kirkwood"] came back and signed with UCLA on the early signing day last Wednesday.
Kirkwood is a long cornerback at 6-foot-3 who has high-level closing speed. He has room to add some size and could also play safety if asked to at the next level.
After opening his recruitment, he also considered Arizona State and USC. Kirkwood told Greg Biggins of 247Sports about the decision to open his recruitment.
"I just wanted to take a step back and look at everyone equally," Kirkwood said. "It was a hard decision for me, a stressful one so I wanted to basically re-evaluate everyone, talk to my family and coaches more and I’m glad I did. After I had a chance to re-evaluate everyone, UCLA was the place for me and where I knew I belonged."
