Specifically, at the skilled positions, including that of WR, DB, and RB, due to the high volume of players playing these positions, often times, players are overlooked, and can be underrated throughout their entire time playing high school ball. Due to this, we have decided to try to shed light on a few of these players early on, hoping that they get the attention they deserve. Take a look below at 4 of our favorite, underrated WR prospects for the 2023 class.
Paul Davis- Hart County High School
As a 2023 prospect, not only did Paul Davis get his fair share of reps on varsity, but he managed to make a huge impact for his team too. Not only did he make plays as a receiver, but he also played a bit of DB as well. On offense, he tracked the ball very well, and made various kinds of catches that stood out. With this, he also displayed an ability to burst up the field for additional yards after the catch. With this, while he may not be the fastest player, he does hold the ability to utilize his short area quickness for positive gains, while also being able to shake defenders. Going into his junior year, we believe he will start receiving more attention, especially if he practices catching the ball cleanly, while also running more polished routes.
Jojo Harden Jojo Harden 5'10" | 155 lbs | WR Mount De Sales | 2023 State GA – Mount De Sales High
Harden, who has already shown that he has a frame that is on track to be the developmental size that plenty of coaches like, managed to put up a small amount of film during his sophomore year. Regardless, he did show flashes of talent and ability. He has the speed to not only be effective as a receiver, but to run the football as well. With this, he also showed that he is effective when blocking defenders as well. Harden has also shown that he has solid speed, and burst as well, which, when he has the ball in his hands, allows him to separate well from tacklers. Look for him to further develop as a route runner, and receiver going into next season.
Jacobi Hatter– Northside High School
Perhaps, out of each of the players on this list, Jacobi Hatter is the most polished route runner. He not only shows that he can stack defenders well, but that he can utilize his feet efficiently in his route running, helping him to gain necessary separation at the top of his routes. Paired with this, hatter also has shown that he can high point the ball, and take off with explosive speed when given the chance. This is what makes him most dangerous, and often times, this results in points for his offense. Because of his big play ability, we do feel that he can blow up over the coming years, even despite his smaller frame and size. His hands, and speed are just too good to overlook.
Adam Hopkins Adam Hopkins 6'1" | 170 lbs | WR Thomas County Central | 2023 State GA – Thomas County Central
While Hopkins started to receive Power 5 offers and looks during the summer of 2020, the attention he has received in the recruiting game has been a bit silent since. Due to that, as well as the fact that he is still young, we believe he is still a bit under the radar. During his 2020 season, he showed that he had great speed, and acceleration that allowed him to separate himself from DB’s. Along with this, he also showed that he is a bit of an explosive, and elusive player with the ball in his hands. When running routes, this ability is also displayed, as he is able to use quick feet, that allows him to get away from defenders, catch the ball cleanly, and get up field quickly. We also want to note that his developmental frame will also be something that will be seen to be a positive factor for him moving forward, as he continues to grow and develop into the dominant player he can ultimately become.
