Entering into the 2020 football season throughout the state of Georgia, plenty of QB prospects were entering into their Junior year, in which they could show off their development following their sophomore season, as well as their ability to lead their team in multiple ways. While plenty of players within this class, including the likes of [player_tooltip player_id="33862" first="Gunner" last="Stockton"] and MJ Morris, have already had their names in plenty of headlines, there are also a large amount of 2022 QB prospects who have just now had the chance to get their names out there. Below, we have listed some of our favorite QB prospects from this class who we feel are very much underrated.
[player_tooltip player_id="33968" first="Devin" last="Riles"]- Carver High
[player_tooltip player_id="33968" first="Devin" last="Riles"], a dual- threat QB for Carver High stands at about 6’1, and has more of a filled out frame than one would initially think. Carver, a very elusive player shows the ability to make defenders miss, while also being able to deliver on deep balls. While we do not feel he is the most accurate QB, and do not believe he has the strongest arm either, we do feel that his athleticism helps him to stand apart from many QB’s in his class, and that his ability to buy time for the other skilled players on his offense can be very effective for his team if honed in, and mastered. Look for him to develop into the bit of arm talent that he has during his senior season, and do not be surprised if D2 schools gain interest in his ability to play football.
[player_tooltip player_id="33915" first="Tyler" last="Hughes"]- Marietta High
As you evaluate the tape of [player_tooltip player_id="33915" first="Tyler" last="Hughes"], you’ll quickly notice his ability to take off and create plays with his legs. With this, due to the fact that his throwing mechanics are smooth, we are very surprised that smaller schools have not taken more of a liking to him, especially due to the program in which he plays for. Hughes also has good touch, and an ability to make throws all over the field, even if he does not have the strongest arm. One criticism we do have of Hughes though, is his inconsistent release, and the fact that the ball can come out inaccurate at times due to this. Regardless, we feel Hughes is worth more attention than what he is gaining, especially due to the success his team has had this season.
[player_tooltip player_id="33930" first="David" last="Dallas"]- Trinity Christian High
It is no surprise that Dallas has not received the amount of attention that plenty of other QB’s have, especially since he plays for a small school in Sharpsburg, GA. Nonetheless, he is a very talented QB, and has shown this throughout the duration of this season. While he is a bit of a longer player, he has still shown the ability to escape pressures, and scramble to the point of opening receivers up, or eventually taking off for big gains. With this, he has had success in multiple unconventional situations. Dallas has also shown the ability to deliver timely passes to short routes, as well as some intermediate routes. Even though he has been effective with each of these things, we do want to see him deliver passes more accurately, especially since he has shown that he can air the ball out very willingly, regardless of who pressures him.
AJ Swann- Cherokee High
The first thing many people many notice when turning on the tape of AJ Swann, is that he has a very strong arm, and has no problem driving the football into tight windows. While he may be inaccurate at times due to his confidence in his ability to do this, it has also paid dividends for him at the same time. Swann does have a bit of choppy footwork at times that can have a bad influence on some of his passes, but we certainly feel that the ability is there. He sees the field decently well, and has no problem making deeper passes look easy. As he goes into his senior year, we have no doubt that a program will give him a chance to continue playing football at the next level.
