The entire state is loaded with top tier talent at all positions, especially in the 2022 and 2023 class. There are prospects that range from having 10+ Power Five offers, no offers at all, had huge Freshman campaigns and up and coming stars. Here is the second segment of this series in which we will dive into Northern California and reveal some of the top rising Sophomores that the talent rich region has to offer.
WR Rashid Williams Rashid Williams 6'2" | 180 lbs | WR Pittsburg | 2023 State CA 6’2″ 180 Ibs., Pittsburg HS
Williams is a crucial part of a talent loaded wide receiver room with the likes of Keynan Higgins and Israel Polk among others, but stood out and more then held his own while playing for one of the top teams in California. The extremely talented 4-Star wide receiver made a huge impact for the Pirates during his Freshman campaign and currently holds offers from Cal, Arkansas, ASU, San Jose State and Oregon State with others soon to offer as he enters into his second year of high school football. The big play and sure handed receiver has great length and ball tracking ability and can make difficult catches from a variety of different body angles/positions. Precise out of his release and in and out of his cuts with little wasted movement, the 2023 prospect is going to have a huge year for the East Bay power as there talent loaded roster rolls into the Winter season in the BVAL conference.
RB/DB Brandon Ramirez Brandon Ramirez 6'0" | 200 lbs | DB San Joaquin Memorial | 2023 State CA 5’11″ 190 Ibs., San Joaquin Memorial HS
One of the top defenders in the state for the class of 2023, the Central Valley product was a small-school star for Hanford High School but recently transferred to San Joaquin Memorial High School for the last three years of his high school career. Currently holding two offers from Texas and Colorado, Ramirez is an explosive defender with good breaking ability and plays with a high football IQ while being very well put together physically, especially for a Sophomore. During his Freshman season, the Fresno prospect triggered well to ball carriers while taking good angles and was a strong tackler both in space and while playing in the box. He also continuously flashed his ball location skills and ability to be a balanced defender both in the box and in coverage. Also playing running back, he projects as a second level defender at the next level and will see more FBS and Power Five offers come his way as he gets set for his Sophomore season for the Panthers.
OL Simione Pale Simione Pale 6'4" | 310 lbs | OL Elk Grove | 2023 State CA 6’3″ 305 Ibs., Elk Grove HS
The big framed Elk Grove High School interior offensive lineman had a great Freshman season for the Thundering Herd, who were one of the top teams in the state last season. Currently holding a Pac-12 offer from Utah, Pale is one of the next great Elk Grove offensive lineman that will look to make their mark at the division 1 level. More of a downhill run blocker, Pale plays with a strong initial punch and good pad level at the point of attack while relying on his strength, power and size to move defenders off the ball. He is athletic enough to pull and sustain/finish blocks at the second level and projects as an interior offensive lineman at the next level. The 2023 prospect plays with good toughness and physicality and will be one of the top offensive lineman in the state by the time it’s all said and done.
DE Tovie Martin Tovie Martin 6'4" | 235 lbs | DL Clovis | 2023 CA 6’4″ 238 Ibs., Clovis HS
One of the more athletically talented prospects in the state that has huge upside potential, Martin is just scratching the surface of what kind of edge pass rusher he can become over the next three seasons for Clovis High School. Although not holding any offers, that will change soon for the long and rangy edge defender. On tape, Martin has a explosive initial first step and does a good job at using his length to keep blockers away from his body and violently sheds blockers while staying gap sound and playing tough against the run. A raw but talented pass rusher, Martin uses his hand speed, length and natural hip bend around the edge to hurry opposing quarterbacks. Going into his Sophomore season, Martin will have a huge year for one of the best teams in the valley and should see his recruiting stock take off as he displays his talents at the Varsity level.
