In the world of spread and single back offenses, colleges stock the shelves with tight ends because of their versatility. Tight ends might line up at the traditional position next to the tackle, flexed out, split out wide, in the wing position, or in the backfield. These are the seven best senior tight ends in the state of Ohio.that meet that criteria. [player_tooltip player_id="34179" first="Jack" last="Pugh"]   6’5” 235     Hilliard Bradley Pugh is the complete package as a tight end. He is a solid blocker that gets his hands inside the frame of the defender, plays with good pad level, and finishes blocks. As a receiver he has soft hands and runs good routes. He catches the ball in a crowd and is a tough guy to bring down as he bulldozes over defensive backs. Pugh is versatile enough to be used as a flex receiver, H-Back, or on the ball tight end. He will play his college football for Wisconsin. [player_tooltip player_id="34191" first="Mitchell" last="Evans"]   6’7” 240     Wadsworth Mitchell is “Mr. Everything” for Wadsworth. He not only plays tight end but also a wildcat quarterback, and a punting specialist. As a tight end, he is used on or off the ball, flexed out wide, or the point receiver in the bunch set. A tall and intimidating force, Mitchell is a sure handed receiving tight end that has excellent speed for his size. He is a physical lead blocker whether in space or being the lead blocker coming out of the backfield. Mitchell will play for the “Fighting Irish” of Notre Dame. [player_tooltip player_id="34213" first="Shawn" last="Munnerlyn"]    6’5” 205     Columbus Independence A hybrid tight end/wide receiver coming out of high school, Munnerlyn has the frame to grow into a massive college tight end. He is a very solid route runner with great hands that can catch anything close to him. Shawn is especially impressive running the middle seam against cover 2 or man coverage. He isn’t afraid of contact and makes the defenders take the punishment when trying to tackle him. Munnerlyn will play for Rutgers at the next level. [player_tooltip player_id="34210" first="Treylan" last="Davis"]     6’5” 230     Jackson Treylan may be the best blocking tight end in the state. He is technically flawless in terms of hand position, footwork, pad level, and leg drive. He, more often than not, drives defensive ends off the line of scrimmage and into the secondary before pancaking them. He is just as an effective receiving tight end that runs good routes and can get up in the air to bring down the football. The West Virginia Mountaineers have landed a good one in [player_tooltip player_id="34210" first="Treylan" last="Davis"]. [player_tooltip player_id="34226" first="David" last="Larkins"]     6’5” 225     Cincinnati Elder Larkins is an athletic tight end that gets the job done as a blocker by locking into the frame of the defender and sustaining. He is smooth at slipping to level two and picking up linebackers in space. Larkins is a confident receiver that picks up extra yards after the catch by reading his blockers or making the defenders miss in the openfield. Larkins should be a major contributor on special teams at Appalachian State where he will play his college football. [player_tooltip player_id="34239" first="Mitch" last="Raifsnider"]   6’8” 245     Castalia Margaretta Mitch is tall target as a flexed out tight end. He is perfect for running the fade route where he can use his height and leaping ability to haul in the pass over shorter defensive backs. A talented basketball player, Raifsnider has sure-hands and catch errant passes. He is athletic enough to run the tunnel screen and make positive yards downfield. Mitch is headed to West Point to play for Army. [player_tooltip player_id="34253" first="Dalen" last="Burney"]     6’5” 215     Akron St. Vincent St. Mary If you want to run the “Hail Mary”, Burney is the guy you want to through the ball to due to his ability to highpoint the football. Primarily used in a split-out position, Dalen can run the seam and takeoff routes to perfection. He is a position blocker who uses his hands effectively in controlling the defender and sustaining till the whistle blows. Dalen is a great finisher by picking up linebackers and defensive backs downfield.
