Firstly, Round Rock senior running back Israel Morgan recorded 458 rushing yards and six touchdowns in the game which are just insane numbers and easily the highest in both categories this season. This beats out his performance against McNeil when he rushed for 252 yards and five touchdowns. In total this regular season, Morgan has rushed for 1,886 yards and 25 touchdowns, and even though his season is not over as Round Rock goes to the playoffs, Morgan has had one of the most elite seasons out of Texas this year.
Round Rock only threw the ball 10 times in the game against Westwood which also led to junior running back Trayvian McCoy-Gay rushing for 170 yards and four touchdowns. In total, Round Rock rushed for 665 yards and 10 touchdowns in 53 carries. This not only shows Round Rock likes to run the ball, but the Dragons run the ball on an elite level that has no match in Central Texas, to say the least.
On the opposite team, Westwood senior quarterback R.J. Martinez had a game as well, throwing for 510 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. This includes a 76-yard bomb and he finished with a 93.2 quarterback rating. On top of this, Martinez also rushed for 50 yards and two touchdowns, accounting for the only points in the game besides the receivers who caught his touchdown passes. Martinez carried the team on his back in this game and managed to not only just carry, but sprint through this game as well. Although, it was simply not enough as Westwood could not keep up with Morgan and McCoy-Gay.
The top receivers for Westwood were senior Julian Deberry and senior Robbie Jeng. Deberry had seven receptions for 241 yards while Jeng had nine receptions for 176 yards and three touchdowns. Westwood also showed how much of an elite passing attack the Warriors had, but the defensive struggles proved too much in this contest against such a productive offense.
Westwood’s season is over with the Warriors finishing with a 3-6 record, but Round Rock continues on to the playoffs to face Lake Travis at 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 11.
