The Lions overwhelmed Camden 52-31 to bring a trophy back for the first time since 1988.
After Camden took the lead midway through the third quarter, Daniel took control by scoring 25 points points in the final 19 minutes of game time. All that happened despite 152 yards of offense from star Camden running back Willis Lane.
But the senior was no match for all of Daniel’s weapons.
WISE SEGARS, RUNNING BACK
The A.C. Flora transfer and converted quarterback got into the end zone late in the first half on a wildcat formation. The score gave Daniel a 27-14 lead heading into the halftime break. Segars finished with a team-high 82 yards on the ground.
BLAKE SIMPSON, LINEBACKER
Of Daniel’s six tackles for loss on the day, Simpson had three of them. He also piled up a team- and game-high 12 total tackles and added a sack. the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder negated several of the Bulldogs’ comeback chances late by preventing big plays.
JACKSON CROSBY, RECEIVER
At 5-foot-11 and 170 pounds, Crosby turned out to be a perfect complement to the No. 1 receiver on this team (more on him in a moment). Crosby caught eight passes for 128 yards and three scores, including a 52-yard score just 50 seconds into the game.
ELI MERCK, RECEIVER
Merck finishes the year with 1,182 yards and 16 touchdowns after his huge game against the Bulldogs. The high-impact senior had 183 yards and two scores in the championship game, racking up all that production on just seven receptions.
TRENT PEARMAN, QUARTERBACK
The junior wasn’t Daniel’s first quarterback option this year, but everyone in the Lions’ inner circle sure is happy he is now. Pearman threw for 472 yards and six touchdowns against the Bulldogs, giving him just shy of 2,800 yards and 35 touchdowns in the abbreviated season.
