But who is next in line? Who are guys making the jump to varsity that could become household names? We took a look at those guys below!
Danny Martisek, Lockport
A smooth possession receiver that is a natural at tracking the deep ball. His cuts are compact and explosive. He shows no issues getting of a jam in the slot and has impeccable body control as a pass-catcher. On film, Martisek doesn’t look like he’s flying, but the kid just always finds a way behind defenses. He is a polished route runner and is consistent as they come. I think he’ll be Lockport’s go-to wideout as a junior.
Kyle Clayton, Phillips
An electrifying return man with blazing top-end speed. Clayton was a big play threat anytime he touched the ball, and I felt like he did his best work from the slot. He has shown the ability to stop and start with relative ease and has some solid double moves in his back pocket. This kid has the elusiveness that you look for in a slot receiver and could make you miss in a phone booth. Clayton should be a serious vertical threat for Jack Lausch Jack Lausch 6'3" | 195 lbs | QB Brother Rice | 2022 State IL this winter.
Malik Armstrong, Minooka
I honestly think Armstrong’s best football is ahead of him, as he flashed early and often as a sophomore. He’s got solid size at 6’2 and can eat up a defender’s cushion with his long strides. The kid has a knack for finding the endzone when he touches the ball in the redzone, oftentimes willing his way there. He terrorizes cornerbacks in man coverage and will high point the football to win you the 50/50 ball. I’m really excited to see how this kid performs in varsity action this winter.
Tucker Miller, Marist
A multi-dimensional wideout with soft hands and big play ability. On film, he shows good wiggle and can accelerate at the blink of an eye. It was not uncommon to see him take a simple 5-yard gain and take it 70 yards to the house. This young man is a game-breaker and has the speed to take the top off any defense. Marist’s wide receiver core is going to be just filthy talented.
Jacob Bostick, Palatine
Jacob has a huge catch radius and can contort his body to make tough catches in contested situations. He stems cornerbacks like a polished veteran before sticking his toe in the ground and getting vertical. He’s a tough runner after the catch and will literally run you over if you get in his way. Bostick will contribute on special teams on top of that and is even one heck of a gunner on the punt team. Fun fact, he actually played against Warren in the second round of the 8A playoffs & caught a touchdown, despite playing the regular season at the sophomore level.
