Both earned wins inside the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, joining the previous semifinal winners for the next round.
Here’s a look at some of the key moments and players from the two games.
CLASS 2A
Central Lyon/George-Little Rock 41, Camanche 0
It was a one-sided and dominating performance by Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, as they cruised past Camanche behind a relentless rushing game and opportunistic defense.
Zach Lutmer showed off both his passing and running skills, completing 12 of 14 for 176 yards and running for 147 with two combined touchdowns. Lutmer is the ideal dual-threat signal-caller, never hesitant to take off and break a big play.
His arm, though, is just as dangerous. Lutmer reads defenses very well, which helps him in his ground attack, and places the ball perfectly for his receivers.
Taylor Putnam was one of those prime-time receivers, catching five passes for 78 yards. Putnam can get separation at the line of scrimmage and also bring the ball down in traffic.
As tough as the day, and game, was for Camanche, it does not take anything away from an incredible season. Jordan Lawrence, who has battled back from injuries, caught four passes and Cade Everson ran for 61 yards.
Waukon 38, Monroe-PCM 21
A big lead held up for Waukon, as they knocked off Monroe-PCM behind the play of running back Ethan O’Neil Ethan O’Neil 6'1" | 200 lbs | RB Waukon | 2021 IA l.
After starting quarterback Creed Welch Creed Welch 6'3" | 180 lbs | QB Waukon | 2021 IA was knocked out of the game with an apparent injury, Waukon relied on O’Neil. He delivered, carrying the ball 26 times for 192 yards and three touchdowns.
O’Neill is a big, strong running back, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 205 pounds. He is just as fast, though, as he is powerful, averaging over seven yards per carry on this night along with flashing his excellent hands with a 22-yard reception.
August Stock tossed a pair of touchdown passes to Jacob VanWinkle in an attempt to get PCM back into the contest. Sage Burns ran for 114 yards, but two fourth quarter interceptions ended any potential thoughts of a comeback.
Stock has a very strong arm and can move. He is a very gifted athlete that stands well in the pocket and gives his receivers time to get open. Once he takes off, he has no trouble sprinting away from defenders.
