Rematch: Defensive Dream- PAS/LCWM
Due to the playoff seeding and the MSHSL “pause” playoffs were scrambled, to ensure there would be a Section Champion for most Sections. This being the case, Pipestone and Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial were forced to face of again a week and a half after their last game against each other. However, both teams only had one day to re-prepare for each other since the announcement was made Wednesday night for this game. Both teams made the most of their situation and made a great game out it again. Pipestone had their “Hidden Gem” in Dawson Schelhaas return to the lineup after missing basically the whole season with a knee injury. LCWM had lost their soon-to-be-announced “Hidden Gem” in Camden Ludeman with an ankle injury. Both players’ different situations had changed their teams’ schemes for this particular games. Here’s a quick scoring recap:
2nd Quarter:
PAS- Joe Kooiman 1 yard rush, 2-point Good, 8-0 PAS
PAS- Kellan Johnson 6 yard pass to Dawson Schelhaas, 2-point No Good, 14-0 PAS
4th Quarter:
PAS- Kellan Johnson 1 yard rush, 2-point No Good, 20-0 PAS
Players Highlighted from Pipestone:
DL- Rogen Smidt wreaked havoc on the opposing offense in both the run and pass game. Plugged up gaps and put pressure on the QB, using his strength and quick first step off the ball.
RB/LB- Joe Kooiman had some good hard runs again ripping off big chunks of yards making it easy on the offense to move the ball. Defensively read his keys quick and made many tackles for loss or no gain.
LB- Austin Johnson also flowed well and stopped the run game, also put pressure on the QB and tracking him down when he tucked-and-ran, had his hand in a lot of tackles.
LB- Cole Paulson played his position well, whether helping on run-support, pass coverage, or putting pressure on the QB. He’s a good form tackler and reads the line real well.
Players Highlighted from Lake Crystal-Wellcome Memorial:
RB/LB- Jamis Ulman did a good job defensively filling gaps and stopping runs for short gains or even losses. Also helped the offense in the run game as well.
FB/LB- Bryer Larson really shined on defense on the short yardage situations. He filled the middle gap and usually snuck through to make the tackle in the backfield. Offensively was a good lead-blocker in the run game.
OL/DL- Gage McManemy stopped the run game on his side of the line, even did a good job running them down from behind as well. Offensively was a good guy to run behind, he really drove the opposing lineman off the ball at the snap.
OL/DL- Jacob Tesch made a lot of tackles for loss, either went through his lineman or was quicker than them off the ball, always found the ball and made the tackle.
