They didn’t ride the back of a couple players. Every player had a role and they did it to result in the outcome of this game. I don’t want to do that because their are several players on the Hudson sideline that are talented in their own right and I want to highlight them as well. So, my plan with this article is to highlight 5 players from Muskego and then 3 players from Hudson. However, on Muskego’s side I don’t just want to highlight the usual stars. I am instead going to dive a little deeper with a few of the kids that are lesser known, but still balled out to go along with a couple of the stars that are still uncommitted.
Evan Huckstorf Evan Huckstorf 5'11" | 190 lbs | LB Muskego | 2021 State WI , Senior LB- Muskego
Evan had a dominant game against Hudson. He finished with 8 total tackles, 2 TFLs, 1 sack, and 1 forced fumble. He was around the ball all game and was a major factor in how well Muskego was able to shut down the strong run game of Hudson. Evan did a great job of shedding blocks and picking through the trash that comes with playing in the box. Over and over he was making plays near or behind the line of scrimmage. Hudson had a very hard time getting and keeping a hat on him all game long. His wrestling background shined through in his play.
Josh Bulski Josh Bulski 5'10" | 180 lbs | RB Muskego | 2021 State WI , Senior RB- Muskego
I love Josh’s game. He is a blue collar type player who week in and week out handles the workload and consistently produces results. Josh is a tone setter for the offense. He fits perfectly into the offense as well with his north-south running style. Josh isn’t just 3 yards and a cloud of dust runner though. Josh does a great job of making subtle lateral adjustments in his runs that allow him to make defenders miss. Then he finishes his runs with tenacity and always falls forward. I hope he can keep getting more and more attention. He is a ball player.
Carson Holman, Junior RB- Muskego
Carson was a surprise breakout player for me in this game. He finished the day with the most carries he has had all season going for 9 carries, 79 yards, and 1 TD. Carson proved to be a pretty well balanced back. He ran hard and picked up some tough yards in the box, and he also showed that he had the speed to get loose on the outside and make some big plays. He is going to be a player to keep an eye on going forward as he is one of the few non-senior RBs with a significant role.
Mason Buehler Mason Buehler 6'1" | 185 lbs | DB Muskego | 2021 State WI , Senior DB- Muskego
Mason is one of my favorite DBs in the state. Over the summer, he already looked like a lockdown corner that had a ton of division 2 interest and offers. He managed to take the next step based off what I saw yesterday. He has the natural, loose hips to turn and run with any receiver and has the ball skills to create turnovers. Yesterday, Mason showed off his ability in run support. His interception along the sideline was his best play, but his second best was flying down against the run and making a sure tackle out in space right at the line of scrimmage. I love how aggressive he is in his play.
Alex Current Alex Current 5'11" | 180 lbs | RB Muskego | 2021 State WI , Senior RB- Muskego
As I highlight the third RB from Muskego, it is fair to say that the entire offensive line can be considered as a Player of the Game. They dominated the trenches and opened up running lanes inside and out, especially after the first quarter when the offense really started pouring it on them.
As for Current, he is a special talent. The amount of production he gets from 10 or less carries in a game is unbelievable. He gets that production thanks to his elite speed, his ball carrier vision, and his elusiveness. Those three traits consistently come together on his big plays. He will see the lane, burst through it, and then once he gets into space he can make any and all defenders miss. He did that on several carries yesterday on the way to 125 yards, and 2 TDs on just 8 carries.
Matteo Bonnin Matteo Bonnin 6'3" | 210 lbs | WR Hudson | 2021 State WI , Senior RB/WR- Hudson
Matteo was the focal point of the offense on Friday afternoon, but that isn’t anything new. It was awesome to see Bonnin in person because it really showed me just how big he is. He is all of 6’3″ 210 lbs and the speed and power he plays with was evident on every touch. Matteo wasn’t able to break many big plays against Muskego, but he did show off how hard he is to bring down. Over and over he would have two, three, or even four defenders trying to drag him down. It took a team effort to contain him. Matteo is a special talent. D1 ability without a doubt in my eyes.
Blake Anderson, Senior OL- Hudson
I am a big fan of Blake. He checks in at 6’2″ 270 lbs and he carries it really well. He showed off some impressive mobility. He flies to the second level to make blocks, and I really love the way he finished a lot of his blocks into the ground. There were plays where he bulldozed defensive linemen off the line and into the ground during yesterday’s game. Blake is currently a highly touted D3 recruit and has several roster spot offers from that level. I wouldn’t be surprised if some D2 programs take notice of him. He has the frame, the athleticism, and strength to earn interest from that level. Blake vs Muskego
Kade Sundeen Kade Sundeen 5'10" | 210 lbs | LB Hudson | 2021 State WI , Senior LB- Hudson
I was looking forward to seeing Kade in action yesterday. He is a strong LB with a compact frame that can pack a punch on contact. Kade was around the ball all afternoon. Muskego was extremely run heavy, so I got to see Kade against the run a ton. He showed off good play recognition at different points in the game. This was a very hard offense to face as they hid the ball so well in the backfield. It was hard to tell where the ball was going, but Kade did a good job of both doing his job and recognizing plays. Sundeen provided one of the momentum swings for Hudson early when he delivered a perfect shoulder pads on the ball hit creating a fumble that they recovered. Kade vs Muskego
