Pass catchers in Arizona showed some legit big play ability this week and were key in helping their teams snag a W. Many of these guys continue to impress every week and rise their stock, and look to take this momentum into the playoffs. Take a look a 5 receivers who made big plays this past Friday night: [player_tooltip player_id="42613" first="Maxwell" last="Minor"], WR, Chaparral HS (C/O 2021) Minor had 7 receptions for 173 yards and 3 TD’s to beat Pinnacle 52-10 and help Chaparral land a spot in the playoffs. Minor was a mismatch all night as he was consistently getting over the top of Pinnacle DB’s. His best trait that stood out to me was his ability to high point and win contested balls. Minor displayed good body control with a solid leaping ability, and showed great ball tracking and timing to out jump DB’s. He displayed strong hands as he was able to snag a couple balls in traffic and take them for big plays. With a long, athletic frame at 6’4" 195 lbs, Minor is your prototypical outside receiver. He is a major piece of the Chaparral offense and will definitely get numerous opportunities through the playoffs, as the Silbor to Minor connection looks to be a lethal duo. [player_tooltip player_id="42787" first="Kyion" last="Grayes"], Chandler HS (C/O 2022) Grayes might just be the most electric player in the state. On an ESPN televised game vs Hamilton, Grayes hauled in 4 receptions for 118 yards and 2 TD’s. He is one of the most complete receivers I’ve seen and still has another year left. He does a tremendous job of generating space and separation by setting up DB’s and does a great job bursting out of his cuts and into his route. Grayes can fly and is a threat every time he touches the ball. He showed excellent body control and did a good job of getting stacked over DB’s on his vertical routes. One of his TD’s came on a 42 yard vert where he used his speed to fly past a safety playing about 10 yards off, got stacked, then snagged a [player_tooltip player_id="42603" first="Mikey" last="Keene"] strike for a TD to make it look easy. Grayes is a true power 5 talent and a very gifted player, and will be an exciting player to watch throughout the playoffs. Isaiah Roebuck, Marana HS (C/O 2021) Roebuck racked up 7 receptions for 92 yards and 2 TD’s to help Marana get their first W of the season. He also added 2 punt returns for TD’s, ultimately ending the night with 243 all purpose yards and 4 total TD’s. Roebuck did a good job of catching and securing balls in traffic to help move the chains. He has been solid at winning contested balls all year and does a good job of high pointing balls. Roebuck has long strides and deceiving speed, which helps him get over the top of DB’s. Roebuck is a two-way starter for Marana and is a good all-around football player with solid potential. [player_tooltip player_id="42715" first="Capri" last="Hamilton"], Chaparral HS (C/O 2021) Hamilton snagged 9 catches for 132 yards and a TD in a win over Pinnacle. As i mentioned before, Hamilton runs precise routes and is one of the best route runners I’ve seen so far this season, and did a really good job of shaking DB’s to consistently put them in a chase. Chaparral’s offensive scheme was executed perfectly as Hamilton worked the screens and shallows in the route tree, which helped set up the deep balls to [player_tooltip player_id="42613" first="Maxwell" last="Minor"]. When Pinnacle would then key deep on Minor, Hamilton would frequently catch shallows and take them for big gains. Hamilton is your prototypical slot and plays with a high motor, and can be very dangerous in open space. The Chaparral offense is loaded with weapons, and will be a fun team to watch through the playoffs. [player_tooltip player_id="42615" first="Andrell" last="Barney"], Basha HS (C/O 2021) Barney had 3 receptions for 103 yards and 3 TD’s. Needless to say, he was a big play threat each time he touched the ball. Barney is a flier down the field and was able to generate solid separation using his good top end speed. Barney also showed good route integrity and didn’t let DB’s bully him around or knock him off his route. Barney is a two-way starter for Basha and a big threat as a corner as well. His position versatility will give him an upside in his recruiting, and I believe he could excel as a return specialist at the collegiate level as well. Barney is an electric player, and will have to continue to make big plays in order to make a run in the playoffs.
