Norcross Football’s Dominance

The Norcross High School Blue Devils have had one of the most dominant seasons so far in 2020. So far, the team has found itself 8-0. This comes as no mistake due to the high level of execution on both sides of the ball. Prospects on both sides of the ball have put up great numbers so far, which have ultimately translated to an undefeated season up to this point. The Blue Devils have defeated the likes of Hill Grove, East Coweta, South Gwinnett, Dunwoody, Meadowcreek, Berkmar, Mill Creek, and Discovery High. On the offensive side of the football, QB, Mason Kaplan has had an outstanding season passing the football. He has totaled over 1,370 yards, with an average of over 190 yards per game. With this, he has thrown 14 TD’s, in comparison to only 1 interception. To go along with Kaplan’s success, players such as Trey Goodman, D’Andre Golden, [player_tooltip player_id="34057" first="Lawson" last="Luckie"], and Zion Alexander have also capitalized on such things, as they have each totaled a large amount of receiving yards. Out of this group, Trey Goodman, who has totaled 580 yards, and [player_tooltip player_id="34057" first="Lawson" last="Luckie"], with 306 yards, lead the team in receiving. On the ground, the team has also found its fair share of success, as Kaleb Jackson, Michael Porter, and Jahni Clarke have each rushed for over 300 yards. Defensively, Norcross has also found ways to shine. So far, they have not allowed more than 21 points in a game, and have also had plenty of players rack up a large amount of solo tackles. Players such as [player_tooltip player_id="33755" first="Jalen" last="Garner"], Zakye Barker have each totaled more than 20 solo tackles. Specifically, Zakye Barker has had 62. Most impressively, the defense has racked up 20 sacks. Etinosa Omoigui, Zakye Barker, [player_tooltip player_id="33755" first="Jalen" last="Garner"], Eric Burdeshaw, and Myles Allen have each recorded more than 1 sack this season. Along with this, the secondary has had a high level of success, as Zion Alexander, Justin Dingle, Najee Chandler, and Zaire Lee have each had an interception. As the Blue Devils continue to play at a high level, they only have 2 more regular season games left before they approach the post season. It is very likely that they can finish the season undefeated. The biggest question mark is how far they an make it in the post season. It would certainly depend on who they match up with, but we certainly feel that they have the talent to compete with the best teams in the state. As we get closer and closer to the playoffs, things will only get even more interesting.
