Some teams have had underrated seasons due to how they have performed against some of the state’s top teams, and some programs have had underrated seasons due to their overall success and record. Some teams, like Fitzgerald High School, have not only sustained a great record, but have performed greatly, with little attention compared to other teams.
So far, during this 2020 football season, Fitzgerald High School has recorded a 9-0 record, in which they now only have one game left on their regular season schedule. Their last opponent will Cook High School, on Friday, November 13th. This season, they have defeated teams such as Cairo, Irwin County, Turner County, Jefferson County, Pierce County, Berrien, Early County, Worth County, and Thomasville. Each of these wins came with the team’s defense allowing no more than 17 points in each of these games. This strong of a defense should come as no surprise, especially due to the fact that plenty of defensive players have performed at their very best for their team. Players such as DE, Jay Price, as well as other defensive players, EJ Lightsey, and Todkevious Wallace have been very impactful in this regard.
Along with a strong defense, the Hurricanes have also had their fair share of success on the offensive side of the ball. QB, Rashad Davis has managed to have a decent set of games this season, and RB Mario Clark has also had a successful season out of the backfield. With this, the WR’s, Chance Gamble, Dequavion Harper, and Demarion Dixon have also compiled great seasons as well, with plenty of catches in their own right. It is because of this all around success and efficient offensive play that we firmly believe that the Hurricanes will go on to have an undefeated regular season. As they enter into a playoffs, it will certainly depend on who they match up with that will determine their chances of a championship run. This in itself will be interesting to keep an eye on.
