Class 2A Regional Preview

Sixteen teams remain in the Class 2A Kansas High School Playoffs. As the playoffs move to the Regional Round of 16 here is a look at four of the eight match-ups and key players in each game. <strong>Maur Hill Prep (8-0) at Rossville (9-0)</strong> This game features two stat monsters and two undefeated teams. Rossville’s <strong>Torrey Horak</strong> is having a dominating season. The athletic junior has accounted for 40 touchdowns, 24 on the ground, and 16 in the air. Not to be outdone, Maur Hill’s senior running back <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="49696" first="Andrew" last="Schwinn"]</strong> has rushed for 1,809 yards and 27 touchdowns. Something will have to give in this contest including one team’s undefeated season. <strong>Wellsville (4-4) at St. Mary’s Colgan (6-2)</strong> Colgan’s game is to control the ball, control the clock, and hand the ball off to <strong>Domenico Bevilacqua</strong>. The Panther senior running back has rushed for 15 touchdowns and 967 yards thus far in 2020. He is a very strong, low to the ground, north-and-south runner. Bevilacqua also has 29 tackles and a sack on the defensive side of the ball. <strong>Cimarron (6-3) at Hoisington (9-0)</strong> The Cardinals are the third remaining undefeated team in Class 2A heading into Regionals. Hoisington has a balanced offense led by <strong>Holt Hanzlick</strong>. The senior back has rushed for 762 yards and scored 12 times on the ground. Meanwhile, quarterback <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35433" first="Mason" last="Haxton"]</strong> has passed for 613 yards and rushed for 307 for the Cardinals. The Bluejays are by junior quarterback <strong>Braxton Harrison</strong>. Harrison has thrown for 927 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 881 yards and 12 TDs. The quarterback who flies highest just may determine which flock of birds moves into the Sectional round. <strong>Hillsboro (6-3) at Garden Plain (8-1)</strong> Hillsboro goes on the road to face a tough Garden Plain squad. <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35617" first="Matthew" last="Potucek"]</strong> will look to improve on his standout junior season. The Trojan quarterback has thrown for 951 yards and rushed for 484. Garden Plain linebacker <strong>[player_tooltip player_id="35504" first="Anthony" last="Hays"]</strong> leads the Owls in tackles with 92. Hays is an under the radar senior who should get some looks from college recruiters. Two other games to keep an eye on the score for are Haven (7-2) at Hutch Trinity (8-1) and Silver Lake (6-1) at Nemaha Central (6-2).
