Behind some of the top talent in the state, Ankeny hoisted up the Class 4A trophy Friday night with a convincing 42-14 victory over Southeast Polk.
The Hawks erased an early 7-0 deficit by scoring three consecutive touchdowns, highlighted by two from [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"].
Bruce, who moved to Iowa from Kansas to play this fall, has committed to the University of Iowa. He showed his versatility all season long, culminating with 91 yards rushing, 58 yards receiving and three total touchdowns.
A playmaker by every stretch of the imagination, Bruce is lightning fast and displays incredible instincts. He’s played quarterback during his prep career.
[player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"] was effective and deadly once again with his legs, as the Ankeny QB completed 9 of 16 for 101 and a TD with 158 yards and two scores on the ground.
It remains unknown where Bauer will go next year, but the senior is a very smart and sound player. He knows when to open it up and is as tough a runner from the position as you will find.
Despite the loss, Southeast Polk’s future remains extremely bright.
The Rams return quarterback [player_tooltip player_id="23947" first="Jaxon" last="Dailey"], running back [player_tooltip player_id="23983" first="Titus" last="Christiansen"] and [player_tooltip player_id="23942" first="Xavier" last="Nwankpa"] among others. All are juniors who are regarded as some of the best in the state - and the nation in the case of Dailey and Nwankpa.
Dailey threw for 157 yards and a touchdown with Christiansen running for 124.
A lefty, Dailey has no trouble on any of his reads, hitting receivers in stride while also putting the ball in the right place on his deep throws.
