The oppening week of high school football in Minnesota saw a plethora of jaw dropping performances. The top talent in the state quickly seemed to have got right back to where the left off last season. The lack of fans, or altered-practice schedules certainly did not stop there from being video game-like performances.

The Moorehead Spud’s signal caller gave Buffalo high school a taste of its own medicine. The Bison have been known to put up flashy numbers in the era of QB, [player_tooltip player_id="10962" first="Aidan" last="Bouman"] and HC, Todd Bouman, but both are now gone and Feeney took advantage. The lefty’ QB found his fellow senior receiver [player_tooltip player_id="18075" first="Blake" last="Walthall"] early and often, as the pair connected on five receptions for 132 yards and four touchdowns. The UND commit added two more passing touchdowns in the first half giving the Spuds a 49-0 lead heading into the lockeroom. Remarkably Feeney’s superb day came in only one half, as he did not come out for the second half of the contest. The senior QB has made quite the statement in the early race for Mr. Football.

</ul>
[player_tooltip player_id="18106" first="Isaiah" last="Huber"] is a bit of a lesser-known name among MN high school football fans, but everyone should know his name now. He began his senior campaign with a bang, making plays all over the field for Rochester Century in their intra-city battle against Rochester John Marshall. Huber exploded for five total touchdowns on only 19 total touches amassing 300 total yards from scrimmage, while 200 of his rushing yards coming in the second half. The senior play-maker had a pair of long touchdown runs for 67 and 74 yards. The Augustana football commit had quite the performance in week one.

<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="23736" first="Jaden" last="Reed"]</strong>, WR/RB/DB, Minneapolis Southwest, senior:</span>
<ul>
<li><em>3 car, 22 yds; 3 rec, 66 yds, 1 TD; 7 TTcks, 2 TFLs, 2 INTs</em></li>
</ul>

</ul>
Minneapolis Southwest’s [player_tooltip player_id="23736" first="Jaden" last="Reed"] is also under the radar, as he comes in as PRZ’s No. 285 senior in Minnesota. He made his best case to climb up that list. A dominant two-way performance saw Reed make plays all over the field. The play-maker had six total touches for 88 total yards and one score on offense. With seven total tackles and two interceptions on the defensive end. This resulted in a 29-2 Southwest beat down over Colombia Heights. The senior has publicly received interest from Bemidji State and North Dakota, but he has made a statement to other college programs across the country.

<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>Matt Madsen</strong>, RB/MLB, Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda, senior:</span>
<ul>
<li><em>18 car, 223 yds, 3 TDs; 1 rec, 5 yds; 7 TTcks, 1 Fum rec.</em></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
The smaller school players always deserve some love and Matt Madsen had quite the day Friday night. Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda competes in nine-man football, but that does not take away from Madsen’s performance. He finished the day with a terrific two-way performance in his own right. 18 carries for 223 yards and three touchdowns on the offensive end, paired with seven total tackles and a fumble recovery on the other side. HLOF took down Edgerton/Ellsworth 48-20 on the back of Madsen’s performance. The Coyotes have quite the matchup next week against [player_tooltip player_id="18047" first="Gavin" last="Wysong"] and Hills-Beaver Creek.
<ul>
<li><span style="font-size: 14pt;"><strong>[player_tooltip player_id="49848" first="Mitchell" last="Piehl"]</strong>, RB/S, Hutchinson, junior: </span>
<ul>
<li><em>17 car, 253 yds, 3 TDs</em></li>
</ul>
</li>
</ul>
The lone junior on this list opened 2020 with quite the game. Hutchinson’s star running back, [player_tooltip player_id="49848" first="Mitchell" last="Piehl"] is currently leading MN in rushing yards, as he finished week one with 17 carries for 253 yards and three scores. His ridiculous 14.8 yards per carry was a dominating performance from start to finish. Prep Redzone’s No. 63 player in the class of 2022 throttled St. Cloud Tech’s defense with touchdown runs of 45, 70, and 60 yards resulting in a 40-6 Hutchinson victory. Piehl currently has no public offers but they could be coming soon.
