#1. Iowa City West (3-0) - 45.0649 (S-)
10/1 - W, 35-23 @ Dubuque Senior
A quick word: Although their rating is a bit inflated because they’re just returning from a 3-week hiatus, you can’t deny the fact that the Trojans look to be back to being one of the best teams in eastern Iowa after a solid performance against a good Dubuque Senior squad. [player_tooltip player_id="23831" first="Marcus" last="Morgan"] would account for all five touchdowns for West, 3 passing, 1 rushing, and a pick-six among his two interceptions in his team’s return. [player_tooltip player_id="23872" first="Grahm" last="Goering"] caught 3 passes with 2 of them going for touchdowns, and the West High defense hauling in 4 interceptions on the day.
#2. Urbandale (5-0) - 43.9391 (A+)
9/11 - W, 36-0 vs CBAL
9/18 - W, 28-27 @ Indianola
9/25 - W, 42-28 vs Fort Dodge
A quick word: Coming out of their bye-week, the undefeated J-Hawks have built up a potential state title contender, but they need to play more of the CIML’s best to solidify their status among the best. [player_tooltip player_id="23823" first="Tucker" last="Langenberg"] has been on a tear offensively, rushing for 424 yards and 8 touchdowns in those three games alone. Combine that with a solid all-around defense, and the U look like one of the strongest teams in Class 4A
#3. Ankeny (5-1) - 43.3508 (A)
9/11 - W, 52-18 @ Fort Dodge
9/18 - W, 68-0 vs CBTJ
9/25 - W, 35-10 @ Valley
10/2 - W, 49-0 vs Johnston
A quick word: The stars are shining brightly over Ankeny and with [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"] FINALLY eligible by their week 6 game, the sky’s the limit. [player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"] looks like the state’s best all-around quarterback, especially with a 17/18 for 156 yards and 2 touchdown performance against Johnston. [player_tooltip player_id="23810" first="Brody" last="Brecht"] has been putting up dominant numbers as well. 22 catches for 297 yards and 6 touchdowns in this four-game stretch. Three players rushed for over 100 yards against Fort Dodge, 4 Hawks recovered fumbles against TJ, Bauer tossed 5 touchdowns against the preseason title favorites Valley, and [player_tooltip player_id="23967" first="Colin" last="Kadolph"] rushed for a hat trick and Bruce caught and rushed for a touchdown in his Iowa High School football debut in a shutout versus a very good Johnston squad.
#4. Pleasant Valley (6-0) - 40.8104 (B+)
9/11 - W, 21-14 vs Muscatine
9/18 - W, 31-7 vs Davenport Central
9/25 - W, 23-6 @ Bettendorf
10/2 - W, 54-0 vs Davenport West
A quick word: The Spartans have been the surprise team in the quad cities this year. Offensively, their long-standing triple-option offense has been excellent all year whether Barrett Lindmark or Ryan Mumey is at QB. Mumey tossed 2 touchdowns and rushed for 1 against Muscatine, Lindmark rushed for 155 yards and 2 touchdowns against Bettendorf, and against West, he tossed 3 complete passes, all 3 of which going for touchdowns, with one of those going to Mumey. Defensively they’re one of the best in eastern Iowa. Michael Acri, Rusty VanWetzinga IV, Parker Sutherland, and Stiles Walker make up one of the best linebacker corps in 4A, Andrew DePaepe emerging as an excellent 3-4 DE, and a secondary featuring Owen Belman, Koby West, Caden McDermott, and Matthew Meyer accounted to a total of 0 passing touchdowns allowed in this 4 game stretch.
#5. Southeast Polk (5-0) - 40.7697 (B+)
9/11 - W, 69-13 @ Cedar Rapids Jefferson
9/18 - W, 34-7 vs Valley
10/2 - W, 69-21 @ Ottumwa
A quick word: SEP is the new frontrunner for the state title after an impressive 5-0 start. [player_tooltip player_id="23947" first="Jaxon" last="Dailey"] is putting up very impressive stats through the air, [player_tooltip player_id="23983" first="Titus" last="Christiansen"] is averaging 8.5 rushing yards per rush, and [player_tooltip player_id="23942" first="Xavier" last="Nwankpa"] is getting 4 touchdowns out of 10 carries in that three-game stretch. The Ram defense has been completely dominant all season long, and especially over their last three games. Holding Valley to just 7 points, and only allowing one touchdown against Jeff before halftime when they rested their starters during the second half.
#6. Dowling (4-1) - 40.1057 (B+)
9/11 - L, 15-18 @ Johnston
9/18 - W, 37-34 vs Waukee
10/2 - W, 42-0 @ Marshalltown
A quick word: Dowling’s had an odd couple of games in week’s 3-4, losing to Johnston by 3 sealed by a last-second goal-line pick by the Dragons, and then the next week nearly lost but kept it close and pulled away in the fourth quarter against a very good Waukee squad. The QB rotation of senior Jake Steingreaber and sophomore Jaxon Smolik are a solid duo with plenty of weapons to throw to. Mack Anderson made 9 catches against Johnston, [player_tooltip player_id="23850" first="Andrew" last="Lentsch"] caught 7 passes against Waukee, and Louis Brooks got a hat trick against Marshalltown. Defensively, guys like Max Derry, Carson Kriegshauser, Will Hermann, and Jaylen Pettus. Not to mention, Roosevelt transfers [player_tooltip player_id="23920" first="Finn" last="Claypool"] and Matty McGee were just ruled eligible last week so expect them to turn into key pieces to the trenches on both sides of the ball for the rest of the season.
#7. Sioux City East (5-1) - 40.0357 (B+)
9/11 - W, 65-14 vs Sioux City West
9/18 - W, 34-0 @ Sioux City North
9/24 - W, 55-26 vs CBTJ
10/2 - W, 20-6 @ Fort Dodge
A quick word: The Black Raiders are benefitting on a more localized schedule with the role they’ve been on over the past four weeks. After convincing victories against rivals and conference foes West, North, and TJ, they had the rare opportunity for a rematch in the middle of the regular season against Fort Dodge. They overcame their week 2 loss with a 2 touchdown victory over the Dodgers this time around. [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"] has been an excellent passer over the last stretch of games, throwing 10 touchdowns to 2 interceptions to receivers such as DaVares Whitaker, Kelynn Jacobsen, Bennett Vanderloo, and Terrick Thompson. The run game has shown to have plenty of depth, as 5 different running backs would score at least 1 touchdown over their last 4 games. East’s defense is led by an excellent ball-hawking secondary featuring Whitaker, Vanderloo, and Cass Camarigg.
#8. Prairie (3-2) - 39.4169 (B)
9/11 - W, 34-21 vs Cedar Falls
9/26 - W, 42-0 vs Linn-Mar
10/2 - W, 48-14 @ Iowa City Liberty
A quick word: Starting the year off 0-2, the Hawks broke out with a surprising 13-point upset over eastern Iowa powerhouse Cedar Falls. Following up that win was a shutout win over Linn-Mar and defeating Liberty by 34 in their return from hiatus. [player_tooltip player_id="23862" first="Nick" last="Pearson"]’s been having an incredible stretch of performances, gaining 492 yards and 11 touchdowns in those three games alone, and Dionte Fliss has been super accurate in his passes during this stretch too. The defense is extremely solid, getting 12 turnovers in those 3 games.
#9. Council Bluffs Abraham Lincoln (5-1) - 38.8148 (B)
9/11 - L, 0-36 @ Urbandale
9/17 - W, 44-7 @ Sioux City West
9/25 - W, 43-6 vs Sioux City North
10/2 - W, 56-13 @ CBTJ
A quick word: AL has been controlling over their fellow MRAC opponents, but results against CIML schools like Urbandale could be a preceding sign of things to come when the playoffs start. Coming off of the loss to the J-Hawks, TJ Hayes went OFF, rushing for 343 yards and 6 TDs against West, and 200 yards and 1 TD against North. While QB [player_tooltip player_id="23941" first="Lennx" last="Brown"] has been sharp and elusive as an excellent dual-threat QB over this stretch.
#10. Cedar Falls (3-2) - 37.8210 (B-)
9/11 - L, 21-34 @ Prairie
9/18 - L, 13-20 vs Dubuque Hempstead
10/1 - W, 41-16 @ Cedar Rapids Washington
A quick word: Whether it’s a loss by 13 to a winless Prairie team or it’s a catch in the back of the endzone by [player_tooltip player_id="23966" first="Trey" last="Campbell"] ruled out of bounds being the deciding play against Hempstead, the Tigers were upset in back to back weeks. After a week off they came back with a big win over Wash. [player_tooltip player_id="23841" first="Ryan" last="Ostrich"] remains a key part of the team, rushing for a total of 437 yards and 4 touchdowns in that three-game stretch.
