ROCK HILL, S.C. - For the first time ever, two South Carolina high school football powerhouses met as South Pointe took on the number one team in the state, Dutch Fork.
Dutch Fork showed why they are the number one team in the state and will be difficult to knock off when the SCHSL playoffs begin in two weeks as they dominated the Stallions in a 35-7 victory on Friday night.
Let’s get into some of the offensive standouts and notes from Friday’s contest:
Offensive standouts
Dutch Fork
2021 QB/WR [player_tooltip player_id="50218" first="Will" last="Taylor"] (6-0, 175 lbs.) - The Clemson commit didn’t take long to make his presence felt as he connected for a 60-yard TD pass on the first drive of the game. We noticed that he was really effective on the velocity on short throws, beating the Stallions man coverage.
2022 RB Marcus Taylor (5’8, 176 lbs.) - Part of Dutch Fork’s game plan was to go with the outside run game and it worked well as Taylor ran hard with patience particularly on the left side of the offensive line. He rushed for 3 touchdowns on the night, including a 1st quarter 41-yard touchdown run where he found a wide open hole.
2022 QB/WR [player_tooltip player_id="61070" first="Antonio" last="Williams"] (6’0, 180 lbs) - Williams is No. 24 in our 2022 rankings and we have a feeling his stock will rise with FBS and FCS programs. He caught two touchdowns passes, including a slant pass where he was smooth in coasting into the end zone. Look out for him moving forward.
South Pointe
2021 K/DT Troy Frazier -- The big man found a lane and had an electrifying touchdown return to end the third quarter but, it was negated by a block in the back penalty. Even though it was called back for Frazier, you’ve got to give the big guy some love.
2021 RB Nygel Moore - Moore had South Pointe’s only touchdown of the night late in the 4th quarter to avoid the shutout.
Other note of interest
Dutch Fork 2023 WR Devin Hyatt was effective early on in the contest in catching slants and getting open in space. It will be interesting to watch him moving forward.
