OCS came into Friday’s game against Luther 5-0 and looked to extend their win streak and take control of their district. This game was back and forth for most of the night and produced some spectacular performances, lets dive into the players who impressed us in this matchup. [player_tooltip player_id="63287" first="Denver" last="Wilson"] - Quarterback - Class of 2021 This game did not feature the biggest explosion of offense and [player_tooltip player_id="63287" first="Denver" last="Wilson"] did not light up any box on the stat sheet besides maybe the interception slot where he had 3 on the night. Despite his turnovers, Denver showed some flashes in this game that really caught my eye. He only threw the ball 18 times on the night but he had a handful of throws that made me say wow and wish I could rewatch them. One was to [player_tooltip player_id="63410" first="Braden" last="Roberts"] on a deep throw to the sideline where a couple of defenders were right on his back. Wilson placed the ball just over his shoulders where his WR was the only one who had a chance at it. Wilson probably had a down night by his accounts as he turned it over 3 times, but with OCS sitting at 6-0 he has a chance to put all of that behind him and focus on what’s ahead. [player_tooltip player_id="38734" first="Collin" last="Matteson"] - Wide Receiver/ Defensive Back - Class of 2022 There’s no way to describe [player_tooltip player_id="38734" first="Collin" last="Matteson"]’s performance in this game other than spectacular. After going 3 and out on their first drive, Collin would score on the next two possessions with a 50-yard pick-six, and a 32-yard reception from [player_tooltip player_id="63287" first="Denver" last="Wilson"]. In total on the night, Matteson would finish with 3 interceptions, 3 total touchdowns (2 on offense 1 on defense), and a pair of long returns on special teams. Football is perhaps the biggest team sport, but some could argue that it was the [player_tooltip player_id="38734" first="Collin" last="Matteson"] show on Friday night as he put on one of the best performances of the week against Luther. [player_tooltip player_id="63409" first="Matthew" last="Robbins"] - Offensive Line - Class of 2021 If we are being honest here, this 2A matchup between Luther and OCS did not feature the biggest teams in the trenches, but one player that stood out because of their size was [player_tooltip player_id="63409" first="Matthew" last="Robbins"]. Robbins caught my eye almost immediately once OCS took the field on their first possession because he was one of if the biggest players on the field. After initially spotting him though, Robbins impressed me with his play on the field as well. He played at tackle for most of the night and sealed the edge well on runs throughout this matchup. He is not the highest recruited lineman in the state by any means, but he has the size to play at the next level if a school gives him a chance. [player_tooltip player_id="63410" first="Braden" last="Roberts"] - Running Back/ Wide Receiver - Class of 2021 [player_tooltip player_id="63410" first="Braden" last="Roberts"] is one of a few running backs that OCS cycles through most games, and while he did not have a ton of opportunities in this game, he made the most of his reps when they called his number. He ran well in the ground game with 30 yards on 10 attempts but what really caught my eye was his lone reception on the night. As I stated earlier it was on a deep ball to the sideline that was placed perfectly by [player_tooltip player_id="63287" first="Denver" last="Wilson"], but the play would not have happened if Roberts would not have made the effort he did. Roberts layed out for the catch in a big way and sparked the Saints’ offense in a game where they needed every big play they could get. OCS’ coaching staff may want to get the ball in Roberts’ hands more often if he keeps making big plays like these. [player_tooltip player_id="63411" first="Peyton" last="McIntire"] - Running Back - Class of 2021 To round out our scouting report for the Saints we have RB [player_tooltip player_id="63411" first="Peyton" last="McIntire"]. Similar to [player_tooltip player_id="63410" first="Braden" last="Roberts"], McIntire did not blow up the box score, but is a quality player who did what he could when his team called on him. McIntire’s best plays of the night came in the first quarter on a RB slip screen and on special teams in the second half. On special teams, McIntire blocked a punt which is always a huge momentum shift. On offense, it was Peyton’s lone reception on the night, but he took it 33 yards and looked dynamic doing so as he made a handful of Luther defenders miss before setting up OCS in good field position to score their first offensive TD of the night. McIntire has close to 500 yards rushing on the season and should be a big part of OCS’ offense moving forward
