One of the top 2021 prospects in the state of New Mexico will stay home to play his college football.
Ruidoso tight end [player_tooltip player_id="26167" first="Grant" last="Oberheu"], arguably the top player in Class 4A, announced Thursday on social media that he had committed to New Mexico State about 10 days after the Aggies formally offered.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Oberheu says the fit between himself and NMSU felt right.
“It is the best option for me because I want to be there and I feel like the coaching staff and I will be a good fit,” Oberheu told Prep Redzone New Mexico. “I like that it is close to home and it looks like we are going to have a good team.”
Oberheu adds that NMSU’s run-pass option offensive scheme is a good fit for his skill set.
“Their quick RPOs tie into my offensive strengths,” Oberheu said.
New Mexico State was Oberheu’s first Division I offer. He was also offered by Eastern New Mexico and Macalester College.
