The National Preps Showcase last weekend featured one of the best in state groups we have ever seen. Some athletes are already well known, with a few of the underclassmen set for a break out year. Have a look at fifteen of these individuals who excelled at the event and could blow up this coming season.
[player_tooltip player_id="28854" first="Jackson" last="Jones"] 22’ QB Tualatin- Coach Houston Lillard raves about this kid as he does have very impressive arm strength. Jones split time at QB as a Sophomore throwing for 1000 yards. He projects as one of the top quarterbacks in Oregon for the 2022 class.
[player_tooltip player_id="28898" first="Jamar" last="Flippen"] 22’ ATH Banks- Flippen has had an outstanding off season after a breakout Sophomore campaign on both sides of the football. He is fast, physical and could very well dominate 4A competition this year.
[player_tooltip player_id="28862" first="Nui" last="Tovey"] 22’ LB Lakeridge- Tovey has the potential of being a big time D1 guy with his size and speed. The Pacers are maybe the most intriguing team in the state to me because of individuals such as him and teammate LB- [player_tooltip player_id="28864" first="Zac" last="Waible"].
Mikey Gibson 22’ QB Canby- Look for Gibson to jump up towards the top of the QB rankings for the class of 2022. You will hear his name often as the Cougars will be one of the state’s best at the 5A level.
Dominic Montiel 22’ QB Marshfield- One of the most impressive QB’s regardless of class at the showcase. Montiel started as a Sophomore and could very well get his school paid for with continued progression.
Hogan Carmichael 23’ QB Summit- Really like this kid’s size (6-5) and demeanor for such a young athlete. The sky’s the limit if he can stay mobile and athletic with that frame.
[player_tooltip player_id="28880" first="Xavier" last="Simpson"] 22’ ATH Central Catholic- Maybe the state’s fastest kid as he could be that gamebreaker for the Rams out of the backfield, or in the slot this season.
KJ Johnson- Gibson 22’ WR Clackamas- Kemeatrous had one of the better days of any receiver at the event. Clack is loaded on the perimeter and KJ will only help solidify that core nucleus.
Caden Negra 24’ WR Ashland- Southern Oregon has a good one in Negra. Already 6-2 he has all the potential in the world coming from a football family. With continued growth and progression, he could be a Chase Cota type WR.
Donald Stephens Jr. 23’ RB Grant- Expect to hear a lot about Stephens in the coming years. The Generals are loaded this season with senior talent, but he could play early.
[player_tooltip player_id="28868" first="Kyron" last="Albright"] 22’ ATH Beaverton- One of the most impressive kids at the entire showcase. If [player_tooltip player_id="28705" first="Trent" last="Walker"] moves to QB for the Beavers, Albright could have a breakout season in the Metro as his "go to guy".
Chip Allers 23’ LB Summit- Out of everyone on this list I could see Allers stock skyrocketing the most. At 6-3 200 pounds he almost won the camps fastest man as a Sophomore. Remember the name. The kid can play.
Riley Van Camp 22’ WR Churchill - At 6-4 Van Camp is an impressive athlete who can run and out maneuver most. Expect Head Coach AJ Robinson to figure out a way to exploit his talents.
[player_tooltip player_id="28855" first="Spencer" last="McKelligon"] 22’ LB Jesuit- You will hear a lot about Mckelligon in the coming months. He moves incredibly well as a 6-3 backer and plays for one of the top programs in the Northwest.
[player_tooltip player_id="28869" first="Leif" last="Beers"] 22’ DL Tigard- Separate from being on the 1st team all name squad, Leif will be one of the top D-lineman in the TRL this season. Due to the Tigers depth he didn’t get a ton of PT last year. That will all change as he is legit.
