The action is going to be much, much hotter than the temperatures, as fans will need to bundle up after some nice weather in recent weeks.
However, it should be a perfect night for action. So, let’s get to it with a look at some of the key games taking place in the area Friday night.
Gaels Look To Maintain Second In District Race
After suffering a tough loss to West Hancock two weeks ago, the Gaels bounced back with a thrilling double-overtime win vs. rival Manson Northwest Webster. Now, they make their final road trip of the season to Alta to face the Warriors.
The two teams have met just twice before, with both coming in each of the past two seasons. Alta-Aurelia scored a 33-7 victory last year and won by a 50-22 decision in 2018.
Drew Schaeffer, though, has looked the role of a standout senior quarterback for St. Edmond, throwing for almost 1,200 yards and 18 combined touchdowns. He has plenty fo weapons in Tyler Rossmanith (405 yards rushing), Parker Oswald (483 yards receiving), Kase Baker (295 rushing, 202 receiving) and Sean Flattery (317 rushing, 101 receiving) just to name a few.
The Warriors counter with Preston McCoy and Cade Rowher. McCoy has 209 yards rushing and 93 yards receiving on 12 catches, with Rowher throwing for 257 and running for 222 with six combined TDs.
E-Hawks Seek Redemption On West Sioux
For decades upon decades, Emmetsburg was the program everyone in the state tried to copy.
Over the past few seasons, though, West Sioux has flexed its might behind current Iowa State backup quarterback Hunter Dekkers.
Things are a bit different for the Falcons now, but they will look to make it four consecutive wins and three in a row over Emmetsburg this week.
The E-Hawks have pitched back-to-back shutouts and have kept three of their last four opponents off the scoreboard. Jordan Anderson and Ben Dunlap anchor the defense, with Cole Shirk pacing the ground attack with 530 yards and six touchdowns.
West Sioux scored over 38 points for the third consecutive time last week. Dylan Wiggins has replaced Dekkers, throwing for over 1,000 yards with 12 touchdowns.
Perfect Lynx Hit The Road
The unbeaten Lynx look to remain that way as they head to Gilbert for a Week 6 showdown.
Webster City has owned the series, holding a 8-2 advantage including three consecutive wins. This season, the Lynx have handed their opponent their first loss, including a 42-7 thumping of Mason City last Friday.
Trey Mathis leads the offense with 771 yards while Chase Rattenborg has compiled 221 yards passing, 444 yards rushing and nine TDs. CJ Hisler, just a sophomore, has scored six times on the year.
Gilbert, meanwhile, rebounded from a loss to Ballard by besting Boone, 24-18. Tanner Hennigsen has thrown for almost 600 yards with five touchdowns.
Expect Fireworks In Newell For Eight-Man Action
A Top-10 matchup in eight-man will hit Newell as the Mustangs welcome in Remsen St. Mary’s.
The two have become familiar with one another, playing in each of the past four seasons. They each own two victories during that time, including a 50-0 victory by Remsen St. Mary’s last year.
Both are undefeated coming into the matchup, as Remsen St. Mary’s has allowed just six points in its last three games. Newell-Fonda, meanwhile, has scored over 32 points in all five this season.
Gabe Sievers leads the Mustangs with almost 900 yards of offense and 12 touchdowns, with Jeremy Koenck doing the damage for the Hawks with 473 yards rushing and eight scores.
