Ankeny’s offense this past season resembled that of a major-level college football team. And why wouldn’t it with a pair of University of Iowa commits at wide receiver, one of the most productive quarterbacks in the state and more. Here’s a look at those top players and more from the district: [player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"] - Ankeny (2021) Yes, [player_tooltip player_id="23828" first="Jase" last="Bauer"] took advantage of several playmakers around him. But Bauer also made all of those skilled players even better. Bauer threw for 1,266 yards with 19 touchdowns and just two interceptions on 134 attempts. He also ran for 428 yards and five more scores. Bauer was incredibly accurate, completing 65 percent of his passes. He also has so much talent in his skill set that he can do it all: throw the ball and run it. [player_tooltip player_id="23810" first="Brody" last="Brecht"] - Ankeny (2021) It all starts with Brody Brech on offense for Ankeny. Everything that the others are able to do comes off teams putting so much attention on the University of Iowa commit. Brecht has 30 receptions for 421 yards and 10 touchdowns. Iowa is getting a great one in Brecht as evident by his touchdown on every third reception this season. [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"] - Ankeny (2021) There was so much around just getting [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"] on the field that many probably wondered if it was worth it. After seeing Bruce on the field, that was answered. Like Brecht, the Hawkeyes are getting an incredibly talented individual who can take it to the house at any time. Bruce has 112 yards receiving, 133 yards rushing and three touchdowns, averaging almost a first down per touch. Kade Somers - Ankeny (2021) The biggest threat on offense for Ankeny so far this year has not been either [player_tooltip player_id="23810" first="Brody" last="Brecht"] or [player_tooltip player_id="35343" first="Arland" last="Bruce IV"]. No, senior Kade Somers has made teams pay time and time again for ignoring him. Somers is averaging over 26 yards per reception with six touchdowns. The biggest benefit for Somers besides playing alongside two Div. I receivers is the attention it brings. College coaches have definitely taken notice of the 6-foot-1, 175-pounder. [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"] - Sioux City East (2022) Maybe Sioux City East thought next year would be its season. [player_tooltip player_id="23964" first="Luke" last="Longval"] didn’t want to wait that long. Longval has led the Black Raiders, throwing for 1,319 yards with 16 touchdowns. At 6-foot-2 and almost 190 pounds, Longval has the size to stand in the pocket and take the pressure. His 58 percent completion percentage is also a great sign for a player still learning the game. [player_tooltip player_id="23991" first="Kael" last="Kolarik"] - Indianola (2022) Scouts got a great look at [player_tooltip player_id="23991" first="Kael" last="Kolarik"] last year, as the Indianola junior had a great season. Despite some inconsistencies at quarterback, Kolarik again has been strong, rushing for 618 yards and catching nine passes for 94. Kolarik’s dual-threat skills out of the backfield make him a prime target for the next level. He also has a knack for the end zone as evident by his 14 rushing scores.
