Some of these prospects already have Division Ii offers, some are looking for their first offer, and some are still unknowns but shoudln’t be unknowns by the end of the season. Take a look at who made my list for “Top 2021 Prospects Without a D1 Offer”
Aiden Carlson, TE, Fargo North
Carlson offers the best of both worlds when it comes to the tight end position. Need him to block? He can use his solid frame to do so. Need him to get you the first down? Yep! He can do that too. Runs effective routes anywhere you need him to. Carlson’s been active in the Northern Sun but hasn’t gotten that Division I offer or walk-on opportunity as of yet to our knowledge. A great sized frame at 6’4 225 pounds.
Sam Sather, OL, Grand Forks Red River
Sather is a big knocker when it comes to battling in the trenches. His ability to be so physical with defenders is eye-opening. He has a quick drop when it comes to knocking a defender on their rear end. Holds one Division II and one NAIA offer to date.
Reid Hartness, QB, Fargo Davies
Reid’s comfort level in the pocket is just so poised that it surprises me he doesn’t have an FCS offer. Hartness was All-State as a junior and also can burst for some yards on the run. I love his deep ball as a feeling; it’s his most accurate throw. This kid would have gotten more offers if there were more junior day opportunities available this summer as he had junior days planned to a few Missouri Valley programs. Currently holds two Northern offers from Bemidji State and the University of Mary.
Cade Garcia, RB, Bismarck Century
Garcia has sold me with his vision in between the tackles. He has some good cutting ability on his runs that make him a tough tackle. Another item that should be looked at his ball control, how many 11-man running backs in North Dakota last year ended their season with no fumbles? I’m going to say that number is pretty low and Garcia is at the top of that list. Just a man that will find the hole and get his team what they need yards wise. Light interest from a few Dakota’s Missouri Valley programs but no offers yet via Twitter. Update: Grabbed a Jamestown offer this week after this article posted!
Simon Romfo, QB, Langdon-Edmore-Munich
Romfo in my opinion is one of the top sleepers at quarterback in all of the Dakotas. Romfo’s team is now 5-0 and to me, it’s hard to ignore a prospect that had 54 (yes, 54) total touchdowns last year. Romfo has a very strong arm and a quick release and is absolutely not afraid to use his legs either, as he gets out the gates quick on his running plays too which accounted for 15 touchdowns. I don’t know Romfo’s close location to the Canadian border is throwing his recruiting for a loop, but I think this kid could be a solid player at the FCS level. St. John’s (Minnesota) is Simon’s only offer somehow at the moment. Grabbed a Jamestown and MN-Moorhead offer this week after this article posted!
JJ Williams, RB, Williston
Williams was one of the first backs I got to watch when I first started covering the Dakotas. He is not he biggest running back you will ever see but he has an elusiveness is his cuts that just make you want to continue watching his film. Williams also can break a lot of tackles for the Coyotes. He also is an active pass catcher in the backfield which adds another element to his game. Holds one offer with light interest in Division I FBS and medium interest in Division II.
