Look for a much more extensive breakdown of each team as the season gets closer. Here is a glimpse of what I would project as the state’s top (15) 6A teams heading into the year. As of right now I have West Linn and Mountainside as a clear-cut top two.
<div> <strong>1. West Linn-</strong> Unquestioned #1 team heading into the season. Especially with Coach Chris Miller returning. One of the deepest teams in the Northwest. The Lions could win 3 or 4 state titles in the next 5 years</div>
<div></div>
<div> <strong>2. Mountainside</strong>- Junior QB [player_tooltip player_id="28837" first="Brian" last="Mannion"] is the real deal, and he has conference POY candidates all around him with the likes of [player_tooltip player_id="28723" first="Andrew" last="Simpson"], [player_tooltip player_id="28744" first="EJ" last="Broussard"], and [player_tooltip player_id="28786" first="Justin" last="Hughes"]. The Mavericks are another team who will consistently be in the state title hunt every year for the forseeable future.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>3. Jesuit-</strong> The Crusaders lose a solid group but return two of the state’s top lineman in [player_tooltip player_id="28703" first="Charlie" last="Pickard"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28739" first="Declan" last="Quillin"]. Look for a talented group of Junior skill kids, led by 2022 QB [player_tooltip player_id="28873" first="Tatum" last="Lewis"], to help propel the traditional Metro power into the league and state title conversation.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>4. Clackamas-</strong> The Cavs return a ton of talented kids with size. QB [player_tooltip player_id="28762" first="Jack" last="Artman"] hasn’t gotten the snaps but he is legit. He will have a young, but relatively deep group returning, with the likes of D1 offered and projected juniors [player_tooltip player_id="28838" first="Miles" last="Williams"], [player_tooltip player_id="28840" first="Kaden" last="Ludwick"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28866" first="Josiah" last="Manning"] leading the way.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>5. Sherwood-</strong> I really like this Bowmen team. They return the Pacific conference offensive ([player_tooltip player_id="28763" first="Clay" last="Peden"]), defensive ([player_tooltip player_id="28712" first="Bryan" last="Cuthbertson"]), and lineman ([player_tooltip player_id="28805" first="Noah" last="Culbertson"]) of the year from last season. They will need to play a tough non-league schedule, as the Pacific isn’t good, and they won’t be challenged in the back half of the season.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong> 6. West Salem-</strong> Year in and year out Coach Shawn Stanley does it as well as anybody. [player_tooltip player_id="28713" first="Holden" last="Whipple"] has the potential of being the state’s top lineman, giving them two of Oregon’s best with [player_tooltip player_id="28738" first="Adrian" last="McConnell"] on D. Look for 6-6 transfer [player_tooltip player_id="28844" first="Brooks" last="Ferguson"] to challenge 1st team all-league returner [player_tooltip player_id="28761" first="Jackson" last="Lowery"] at QB.</div>
<div></div>
<div>
<div> <strong>7. Sunset-</strong> The Apollos could be really good. They return one of the top lines ([player_tooltip player_id="28710" first="Liam" last="Brown"] & [player_tooltip player_id="28740" first="Kanen" last="Rossi"]) and LB units with ([player_tooltip player_id="28743" first="Connor" last="Stevens"] & [player_tooltip player_id="28780" first="Tom" last="Mcmillan"]). This will be a veteran group with size. If the kids on the perimeter come to play they have a chance to win a conference title and make a run.</div>
</div>
<div> <strong>8. Tigard-</strong> The Tigers lose a lot of talent, but it’s one of the deepest programs in the NW, with all everything D1 football/basketball standout [player_tooltip player_id="28700" first="Drew" last="Carter"] leading the way. Expect Junior WR [player_tooltip player_id="28836" first="Keenan" last="Speer-Johnson"] to have a breakout season and add to his list of division 1 offers.</div>
<div></div>
<div> <strong>9. Tualatin-</strong> Another group that loses one of the top perimeters in the state but always reloads. Talented Junior’s [player_tooltip player_id="28846" first="Cole" last="Prusia"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28843" first="Malik" last="Ross"] will be ranked among the top 22’s in Oregon, and will lead the perimeter. The T-Wolves always have numbers on their side and are extremely well coached.</div>
<div></div>
<div>
<div><strong>10. Central Catholic-</strong> Even though the state champs lose one of the deepest perimeters in state history, the Rams still got dudes, and will be alright. Junior’s [player_tooltip player_id="28839" first="Jordan" last="King"] and Emar’rion WInston (Committed: Oregon) are both big time D1 guys. CC will be young but good once again.</div>
<div>’</div>
</div>
<div><strong>11. Sheldon-</strong> You can’t go wrong with 6-8 [player_tooltip player_id="28701" first="Shane" last="Schwake"] and D1 DE/TE [player_tooltip player_id="28711" first="Carter" last="Neuman"] leading you. That said as the Irish don’t return a ton of skill kids like in years past. Coach Josh Line has done an outstanding job taking over for the Johnson group, but it’s yet to be determined who will be putting the points on the board.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>12. North Medford-</strong> Potentially one of the better teams North has had in a while. It would not surprise me to see them make a run to the state-semifinals and win a conference title. They are deep and that good. Look for [player_tooltip player_id="28754" first="Devin" last="Bradd"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28725" first="Chance" last="Constanzo"] to both go off.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>13. Lake Oswego-</strong> Much like Central, LO loses an unreal perimeter full of division 1 athletes, who just played in back to back state title games. This will be another young team led by the likes of 2022’s [player_tooltip player_id="28858" first="Dylan" last="Layne"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28887" first="Jack" last="Layne"], along with D line standout [player_tooltip player_id="28863" first="Gavin" last="McGuire"].</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>14. Lakeridge-</strong> It would not surprise me to see the Pacers in the conference title mix come seasons end. They have that type of potential. Junior LB’s [player_tooltip player_id="28864" first="Zac" last="Waible"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28862" first="Nui" last="Tovey"] are one of the best duos in the state, and [player_tooltip player_id="28768" first="Andrew" last="Oliver"] returns after leading the conference in INT’s one year ago.</div>
<div></div>
<div><strong>15. Grants Pass/ Grant/ Oregon City-</strong> GP has a legit group of all conference returners back led by 2nd team all league skill guys [player_tooltip player_id="28781" first="Devik" last="Chiang"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28771" first="Spencer" last="Sloan"]. John Beck has done an exceptional job with the Generals as they have the talent to win a few playoff games. Oregon City always has numbers and they return multiple all conference athletes, including talented QB/WR duo [player_tooltip player_id="28760" first="Trey" last="Martin"] and [player_tooltip player_id="28742" first="Jahleel" last="Heath"].</div>
