[player_tooltip player_id="49773" first="Desmond" last="Purnell"] had a solid two-way effort in Hayden’s Week 2 28-22 loss to Centennial League rival Seaman.
Here is a scouting report on the Wildcats’ loss.
Offensive Three Stars
ATH, [player_tooltip player_id="49773" first="Desmond" last="Purnell"], 6’0”, 205 – Purnell scored all three touchdowns for Hayden. He returned a kickoff 90 yards for one score and then had two end zone receptions. Purnell is an explosive player who can hit the hole quick and outrun defenders. He finished with 6 receptions for 108 yards. He finished tied with a team-high 10 tackles. Purnell has offers from JUCO programs but has not made a commitment.
QB, Johnny Holloway, 5’11”, 135 – Holloway had one of his best high school games at quarterback. He completed 16 passes and threw for two touchdowns. The Hayden senior is quick, but projects to be a wideout or defensive back from college recruiters.
OL, [player_tooltip player_id="35665" first="Joe" last="Ottig"], 6’3”, 255 (’23 Ranked 24) – Ottig is just a sophomore and starts both ways for Hayden. He is going to be a player DII programs lock in on and could be a fringe DI recruit. He has a big frame, and room to make big improvements. He had a solid game on the offensive line and five tackles playing on the defensive line.
Defensive Three Stars
LB, [player_tooltip player_id="35443" first="Will" last="DeVader"], 5’10”, 190, (’21 Ranked 129) – DeVader finished with 10 tackles playing linebacker. The senior is a hard hitter, relays the defensive play calls, and wraps up on tackles. He is still looking for college offers.
LB, [player_tooltip player_id="35479" first="Jordan" last="Rainer"], 6’3”, 190 (’21 Ranked 168) – Rainer has a football motor and belongs on the defensive side of the ball. He is a run-stuffing linebacker and can run down fast runners. He had nine tackles in the loss to the Vikings. He is being looked at by JUCO coaches.
DB, Ja’Mier Garrett, 5’11”, 180 – Garrett was an impressive surprise. The senior had five tackles and has a nose for the football. He has not received many looks from college scouts yet, but if he keeps playing like he did against Seaman; it won’t take much longer.
