Make sure to note these five seniors for their respective programs specials teams this season.
Isaiah Apostol – Mountain House – Kicker
After being named all-league as a junior, Apostol may be the top kicker in the Western Athletic Conference this season. He kicks with strength holding a school record from a 41-yard field goal against the Chavez Titans on Aug. 23 and averaging 50 yards on each kickoff for the Mountain House Mustangs. He has been on the National Watchlist by Paul Assad specialist camps who notes he has great kicking fundamentals and can develop into a productive college player.
Diego Soto – Monterey Trail – Kicker
The Monterey Trail Mustangs had one of the top offenses in the section in 2019. With the team having the sixth-most touchdowns within Sac-Joaquin, Soto was able to finish off a touchdown drive with a PAT completing 96 percent of his attempts. He finished sixth in the section for kick scoring and was an All-Metro honorable mention. Soto also has a good kicking distance with 11 touchbacks on kickoffs, the third most by any Sac-Joaquin junior in 2019.
Caleb Terpsma – Ripon Christian – Kicker
The three-sport athlete for the Ripon Christian Knights had a strong year on the gridiron. He is a fundamentally sound kicker who puts height on the ball and gets distance on kickoffs. The Knights had both a dominant offense and defense as a team that Terpsma played a factor in and was named first-team for the Southern League. The team also went undefeated at 10-0 during the regular season and won their second straight Southern League title.
Woody Brennan – Rocklin – Punter
The Rocklin Thunder may have the best special teams unit in the state with not only a top kicker with two-star recruit Cole Becker but also a top punter with Brennan. He led all juniors in the section with eight punts inside opponents’ 20-yard line. His yards per punt were the fifth-most by any kicker in the section. The Thunder only lost three games during the regular season, two within a single possession. In addition, they allowed the fewest points within the Sierra Foothill League, a league that has programs such as Folsom, Oak Ridge, and Whitney. With his performance on the field, Brennan was named All Sac-Joaquin second-team defense.
Adrian Melesio – Patterson – Kicker
Melesio was very productive for the Patterson Tigers last season. With 12 regular season field goals, he was second in the state and eighth in the nation. For the end of the season statistics, he tied with Cole Becker for the most (14) field goals in the state. Melesio’s long was 49 yards that was the third-longest field goal by any junior kicker in the state. He also finished perfect for the season on PATs going 56-for-56. Melesio’s accomplishments led him to be named All Sac-Joaquin and All-State second-team offense.
