Barkate transferred to Mission Viejo for the spring semester and was a member of the Diablo’s track and field team before the suspension of the season due to COVID-19.
He holds 16 offers with Arizona State being the most recent school to offer him. Barkate also has offers from Arkansas, Hawaii, Kansas, Nebraska, Purdue, UNLV, Utah and Virginia Tech among others.
When he got the Arizona State offer and was still enrolled at Mission Viejo, Barkate told Mason Kern of 247Sports, "It just kind of proves that I can still handle my own at a bigger school instead of just a lower competition school. Get my name out there more.”
