Year after year, North Gwinnett puts multiple football players into various levels of college football programs, and they end up going on to receive their degrees, as well as demonstrate a good athletic career at the next level. Each fall, North Gwinnett finds itself in place to compete with some of the best teams in the state, and to put itself in a position to compete for a state championship.
In 2019, North Gwinnett managed to have a winning season, but not in the way that mattered the most. In the regular season, the team only encountered one loss. Following the regular season, North Gwinnett would go on to meet Lowndes High School in the 3rd round of the playoffs, and would fall short with a final score of 49-28. Going into the 2020 season, the team is in perfect position to make another potential run to the state championship due to the fact that they will be retaining a large amount of talent.
While their will be a large amount of talent retained, North Gwinnett did unfortunately lose player such as WR Josh Downs, who is now playing at North Carolina, as well as DE, Jared Ivey, who is now at Georgia Tech. Along with these players, North Gwinnett also lost FS, Cameron Hinson, and DE, Chuck Smith.
Luck enough, the team will be retaining their best player, LB, Barrett Carter Barrett Carter 6'1" | 220 lbs | LB North Gwinnett | 2021 State GA who is entering into his senior year, and will be going on to play with Clemson in 2021. Star DB, Jordan Hancock Jordan Hancock 6'1" | 165 lbs | DB North Gwinntett | 2021 State GA , who is now committed to Ohio State following his de-commitment to Clemson, will also be returning for his senior year. Other defensive players such as Corbin Hood, and Jayson Gilliom also look to continue to be a force on the defensive side of the ball, and if all goes according to plan, will be able to put their team in position to be in the playoffs again.
As you can see, North Gwinnett’s roster is loaded once more. Not only will their star players continue to shine, but there is no doubt that younger players will also step up to the plate, especially on offense. As North Gwinnett’s season is preparing to start on Saturday, September 5, 2020, you can bet that we will be tuning in.
