Continue ReadingEach Friday night this season, actors will shine in the light and others will shrink from the heat. The athletes that stepped up their games are the ones that are chasing their football dreams. They are no longer slept on. They didn’t just answer the bell. They are the BELL RINGERS! They are walking giants, who make plays to help their teams win while waiting for that call from the college coaches who see the fire, passion, and skill. Here are the September 4, 2020, Prep Redzone Missouri BRs (Bell Ringers). This week, all of these players are smaller school guys who are forcing college coaches to say, “Football in Missouri isn’t only played in St. Louis (for real) and Kansas City.”
QB Caelon Weir, Junior, Warrenton (6’1, 190) Rarely will players get to #RingTheBell on a losing team, but Weir’s performance was gritty and needed to be recoginized. The junior quarterback, under pressure much of the night, was able to move in the pocket, escape rushers and still complete three touchdowns to keep his team in the game. Weir is what football guys like myself call a ‘gamer.’ For his efforts, the Warrenton QB is a Bell Ringer.
RB Zach Collins, Senior, Troy Buchannan (5’7, 170) Conversely, playing Warrenton, Collins and his offensive teammates had a night to remember. The senior power-plug churned out big time yards between the tackles and showed his excellent vision to cut the ball back against the grain for large chunks of yardage. 216 yards and four touchdowns later, Collins could stake claim to being the best offensive weapon on the field. Zach Collins is a bonafide Bell Ringer.
RB Chase Wilson, Junior, Grandview (5’10, 170) Winning a football game on Friday is the dream of every young boy. But adding frosting to that cake is scoring three times and rushing for over 100 yards. Wilson, the junior runner, at times took over the game versus Crystal City. Wilson has soft hands, which for a back on the toss sweep, makes keeping his eyes downfield and anticipatin the holes so much simplier. Though Wilson isn’t physically imposing, he hits the hole with vicious and uses quickness to dance out of trouble. Go on Chase Wilson, #RingTheBell
RB Ramone Green, Sophomore, Nixa (5’9, 180) I love football season for guys like Green. This sophomore bursts onto the regional landscape in a HUGE win versus Joplin. The speedster broke tackle upon tackle, churning for 156 rushing yards and a score. Green is a compact runner who rarely allows the defender to get a clean hit on him. The 2023 graduate runs under his pads well and sees the cut before the hole is even there. This young man has a bright future and will have college offers very soon. Added to my rankings list at prepredzone.com/MO, Green is also an official Bell Ringer.
WR Dawson Camden, Senior, Perryville (5’10, 170) In critical games and situations in those games, coaches count on their senior leaders to step up and make plays. His Perryville teammates will look to Camden all season and in game two versus Windsor, the senior got to #RingTheBell. Showing deceptive speed, sticky hands and savvy route running, Camden had 107 yards receiving on five catches, two of those grabs ending in scores. Camden may not get Power Five looks, but the Perryville senior can help a college program once his high school career is completed. Dawson, you are a Bell Ringer.
