Before PrepRedzoneWI continues with our Preseason All-State teams in anticipation of the September 7th start date of the season, I am going to go back and highlight some stud 2021s and 2022s in each Division of the state. This article will serve to feature the stud 2021 graduates in Division 5 that were not named to the Preseason All-State team. One of the disadvantages of those All-State lists is the fact that a lot of really good football players get left off the list. Just because you weren’t named to one of these teams doesn’t mean you don’t have any game, and it definitely doesn’t mean you can’t be a productive college football player. Let’s meet some of these future college stars here below, as well as analyze and breakdown their film. Thanks for reading!
Zach Robenhorst (Oconto) DT. 6’2, 220 lbs. Very quick off the LOS which helps him cause disruption in the backfield on runs or passes. Has the strength to move smaller defenders out of the way easily. Strong tackler and has a great frame to put on a lot more weight. Looks thin for 215-220. DT Highlights
Travis Runberg (Cumberland) LB/WR. @Runberg27 Moves his feet well and is physical at the point of contact. Does a good job reading his keys and locating the ball-carrier. Can play ILB or OLB and is a strong run-defender with some speed off the edge. Tackles a little high but is strong enough to get away with it at the high school level. 2019 Highlights
Jordan Sells (Cedar Grove-Belgium) LB. 5’9, 170 lbs. @jordansells19 Smaller, quicker LB with good coverage skills and can cover some ground out of his stance. In coverage he gains depth efficiently and locates receivers coming into his zone. Can beat blockers with speed and pop through the LOS before you know it. Really strong for his size and has no problem hitting you. My favorite part of his game is definitely his speed. ’19 Highlights
Carmelo Aleman (Amherst) WR/DB. 6’3, 180 lbs. Big-play WR with good ball skills and is proficient at high-pointing the football. Long strides who hurt opponents in the playoffs on his post route. Also strong through contact and if the DB isn’t in a good tackling position when the ball gets to him then Aleman is going to the house. Hard not to like his length as well. Level 4 Playoff Highlights Level 3 Playoff Highlights Level 2 Playoff Highlights
Bernie Van Den Heuvel (Valders) QB/WR. 6’3, 180. Good footwork with a smooth release and can put some zip on the ball. Has no problem hanging in the pocket and setting his feet even though a big hit is coming. Long, athletic QB who showed some strength running through contact as well. Can get outside of the pocket well and has the ability to make throws from awkward angles. 2019 Highlights
Reese Brunner (Elk Mound) DL. 6’, 210 lbs. Powerful for his size and has some serious pop and violence in his hands. Disengages from blocks well and is a stout run-defender. High-motor and has a lot of room to put on weight. Junior Highlights
Gabe Moschkau (Elk Mound) DL/OL. 6’3, 200 lbs. Really strong upper and lower body that aides him in fending off blockers. Explodes off the ball and when he gets his hands on you it’s game over. Similar to teammate Brunner, Moschkau is strong for his size and has a lot of room on his frame to put on additional muscle. Tackles and comes out of his stance a little higher than I’d like but is strong enough to get through it. Relentless effort. Junior Year
Joe Schmidt Joe Schmidt 6'3" | WR Brookfield Academy | 2021 State WI (Brookfield Academy) WR. 6’3, 170 lbs. Good possession WR who runs efficient short and deep routes. Good hands and good ball skills and can go over the middle as a receiver. Long frame with a lot of room to grow. I really like his fearlessness over the middle as a wideout and has the ability to play safety as well. Joe Schmidt Joe Schmidt 6'3" | WR Brookfield Academy | 2021 State WI Junior Year
Soph Gengler (Lomira) RB/DE. 6’2, 200 lbs. Strong triple-option ball-carrier with some good burst and an efficient cutting ability. Physical blocker and has some good speed once he gets to his top gear. Shows some good hands out of the backfield as well and even returned some kicks last year for Lomira. Aggressive and high-motor DE with good tackling ability as well. Highlights
Eden Jacobson (Spencer/Columbus Catholic) RB/LB. 6’0, 165 lbs. @EdenJacobson6 Explosive and shifty big-play RB with good vision and is a home-run threat whenever he has the ball. Looks bigger than his 6’ 165 lb. frame suggests and is strong enough to run through weaker tackle attempts. Has no problem lowering the shoulder as well. 2019 Highlights
Carter Klein (Clinton) TE/DE. 6’, 210 lbs. @CarterKlein16 Aggressive blocker who is a true H-Back and can play TE/FB/or lineman if you need him there. Strong for his size and uses his hands and leverage well. Junior Season
Dalton Cook (Bloomer) LB/FB. 6’2, 210 lbs. @Cookie41ftw Has great size for the LB position. Fills out his 210 frame well. Can move laterally gap-to-gap quickly and reads his keys well to locate the ball. Strong enough to keep blockers from moving him out of his gap. Triggers on the ball well and has some good speed for his size. Good technique in his tackling. Junior Highlights
Charlie Herrick (Bloomer) TE/WR. 6’2, 185 lbs. @charles7herrick basketball highlights
Micah Cody (Lakeside Lutheran) LB/WR/RB. 6’, 190 lbs. Strong football player who covers ground well on the defensive side of the ball and is all-around a good athlete that can help a college team on whatever side of the ball they need him at. Versatile and dynamic player who is a quality pass defender and a good tackler. 2019 highlights
Zach Dewhurst (Lomira) QB. 6’2, 210 lbs. Tough kid who will hang in the pocket and is an all-around good athlete with a strong arm. Really dangerous as a ball-carrier with a mean stiff arm. Overall I just really like his toughness and that’s a hard thing to have show up on film sometimes. Junior Year
