Under The Radar
The class of 2021 in the buckeye state has plenty of talent tucked away in all corners of the State. I have come across some talented prospects, and here are a few who are looking to break through once the season opens. Here are a few players to add to your watchlist in the class of 2021.
Charles Calhoun III
6’2 – 225lbs
St. Edwards – DE/OLB:
Charles has worked extremely hard in the 2020 offseason and has improved in all areas of his game. In the 2019 season, Calhoun had limited varsity snaps but showed his sideline quickness and ability to be a force as an edge rusher on film. Off-season notes: Has improved his first-step quickness and his ability to bend on the pass rush. He has good traits of being aggressive and tenacious, which will help complete him as a good college prospect.
Dwayne Morehead II
6’2 – 180
Cardinal Stritch – ATH
Morehead had a breakout 2019 season for the Cardinals while playing multiple positions. His ability to understand the game is what makes Morehead a tough matchup for teams in the league. Dwayne has an enormous wingspan and athleticism to play both sides of the ball in high school and at the next level if needed. Expect to see more explosive plays in 2020, he has gained more speed and power this offseason.
Shy’Twan James
6’3 175
Toledo Central Catholic – CB
James will get his chance in 2020 to showcase his ability with his impressive size at Cornerback. Shy’Twan is a fierce competitor that does not shy away from the competition. His coaches believe that he has plenty of room to grow and that James can play college football. Covering top WR’s like Tae’shaun Johnson and J’shun Rushing at practice will help him improve rather quickly.
Justin Johnson
5’6 155
Whitmer High School – ATH
Justin Johnson is a very explosive weapon for the Whitmer Panthers. Johnson can make most defenders miss in the open field often. His size has not hindered his play, but a nagging injury slowed in down for a little bit in 2019. Johnson will be a big-time playmaker in 2020; he will be the most electrifying player on his offense.
Konner Logston
6’2 190
Elmwood – QB
Konner has been starting varsity since his freshman season for Elmwood. Konner takes pride in being a three-sport athlete, and he has seen success in Baseball and Wrestling as he uses those sports to prep for football. Logston has the potential to have a massive season with multiple starting WR’s coming back mixed with their potent air raid offense. Logston tossed for over 20 TDs and 2,000 yards in the air, and this offense should put up more numbers with Konner’s offseason improvements.
Marek Albert
6’3 225
Shelby – DL
Marek film surprised me as I continued to watch the whole tape; he is talented. Albert’s ability to stay with a play after fighting off blocks are frequently on display. He is an aggressive and physical player who could grow into a reliable defensive lineman at the next level. Marek racked up the honors in 2019, becoming 1st-Team All-State and the NW district defensive player of the year. I’m expecting more of the same with an, even more, dominate 2020.
Ben Van Noord
6’2 200
Springfield – WR
Ben Van Noord has put on display his ability to be a dominate possession in 2019. Ben has a “nack” for finding the football in jump ball situations. Van Noord also shows his speed while running away from many defenders on multiple occasions. Ben is a college prospect and will surely wake up a lot of coaches in 2020. Expect to see an improved route running too, he has given us glimpses on twitter.
