Carlos Cervantes – Marietta – Class of 2022
One of the most productive linebackers in the state, Cervantes is a tackling machine who is coming off an outstanding sophomore season where he helped lead the Blue Devils to a state championship in Georgia’s largest classification. As a starter, Cervantes totaled 122 tackles (2nd most in 7A) and 6 TFLs. He may not be the biggest guy at just 5-foot-9 205-pounds, but that’s the only thing holding him back. He has great instincts, he knows how to tackle, and he started as a sophomore for a state championship team. He can absolutely play at the next level somewhere, and another solid year as a junior could be exactly what he needs to start reeling in some offers.
Kobe Haynes – West Forsyth – Class of 2021
After missing 7 games last year due to injury, the West Forsyth athlete ended the 2019 season on a strong note, and is fully healthy for the 2019 season. At 6-foot-0 200-pounds, Haynes is a good athlete who is able to play some running back for the Wolverines if needed. He played some safety last year, but he’ll have a chance to move down to linebacker and rack up the stat sheet with tackles this fall. He shows good instincts, he can dissect plays before they happen, and he knows how to strike the ball carrier. He’s one of the best defenders in the region, and he’s bound for a big senior season.
JD Bengston – Tift County – Class of 2021
One of the biggest sleepers in all of south Georgia, the Tifton native is a big, versatile defender who can play ILB, OLB, and even some DE. At 6-foot-1 215-pounds, Bengston is a strong kid who consistently does his job. He’s not the flashiest linebacker out there, but he knows how to get off blocks and find the ball carrier. He shows great instincts and knows how to read an offense in pre-snap situations. He can stuff the run in the middle but he can also set out and rush the passer from the edge. He was named a team captain last year as a junior and was named 1st-team All-Region. He plays with heart, passion, and a great motor. Plenty of smaller schools should have offered him by now, but a big senior season could give him some looks late in the recruiting process.
