Here are a few “under the radar” running backs in Georgia without Power 5 offers to know for the 2020 season.
Omari Arnold Omari Arnold 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Brooks County | 2022 State GA – Brooks County- Class of 2022
We’re going to start off in South Georgia and mention Brooks County (GA) running back, Omari Arnold Omari Arnold 5'10" | 190 lbs | RB Brooks County | 2022 State GA . Now he may be on the smaller side at 5-foot-8 160-pounds, but the vision, speed, and natural running ability are there. The small-town athlete rushed 201 times last fall as a sophomore for 1,698 yards and 22 touchdowns. He also caught 21 passes for 159 yards and 3 TDs.
Of course, playing in a small town means you’re likely playing on both sides of the ball. On defense, Arnold scored two touchdowns. One was a scoop-and-score while the other was a 98-yard pick-6. He totaled 285 kick return yards off just 9 returns and one touchdown. That makes 22 touchdowns on the year for the 2022 athlete.
Christian Lett – Carrollton – Class of 2021
The 6-foot-0 200-pound back from Carrollton may be the most underrated prospect in west Georgia. He may not be the fastest back, but he’s shifty, shows great footwork, and knows how to break tackles. If you don’t wrap him up properly, you aren’t getting Lett to the ground. Now only is he an impressive back, but he has the ball skills to make an impact at receiver as well. He can take direct snaps at QB, he can play WR, but at RB, he really is one of the best in the region.
The offers may not be there this second, and he would be an absolute steal for any small program this late in the process. He has the vision, the the balance, and the one-cut ability to pick up big yards in a hurry. He always finds a way to fall forwards, and he is coming off a productive junior season. Look for him to put up some big yards for Carrollton in a number of different ways this fall.
Javon Yearby – McNair – Class of 2021
One of the better athletes in the metro-Atlanta area, Yearby is a 6-foot-0 185-pounder who stars on both sides of the football. He’s not the fastest straight-line runner, but as a running back, he changes directions really well. He’s a long strider so he does pick up big yards in a hurry, and he can be dangerous in the open field. He also has plenty of muscle on him and rarely gets brought down by the first defender. He’s a back who pushes the pile and moves the chains. He hits the hole hard, he’s a reliable pass catcher out of the backfield, and he shows exceptional balance. He makes a lot of plays not only as a running back, but in the return game and on defense. The athleticism is there, but it’s clear he’s turned into an all-around back over the last few years. He is expected to be one of the more productive backs in the area this fall.
