While it is very exciting to watch, and even to play in backyard games, it is not the easiest to play in an actual game. So much goes into the position, whether it is mechanics, arm talent, touch, knowledge of the defense, and much more. Even more exciting than watching a QB do all of this very well, is to watch a very young prospect be able to do all of this at a high level, or be able to show flashes of his ability to develop into a great below. Below, we have listed some of the top 2023 QB prospects that you should know going into this season.
Lucian Anderson III– 6’2 200- Prince Avenue Christian
Last season, Lucian Anderson III only started 4 varsity football games. In those 4 games, he managed to put up 817 yards, and 9 TD’s. If this doesn’t tell you about the ceiling that this kid has, I don’t know what will. When evaluating his tape, one of the most exciting things about his play is his ability to have phenomenal ball placement, while also being able to get good velocity behind each of his passes. With this, Anderson moves the pocket very well, and can throw very well on the run. His overall accuracy is very impressive, especially since this comes with the fact that he is a natural thrower of the football. Anderson also has a very strong arm, and shows the ability to make timely throws on deep, short, and intermediate passes. With this, he can also fit the ball into very tight windows. Look for this upcoming 2020 season to be the season that he starts to gain plenty of attention.
Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA – 6’2 210- North Cobb
Malachi Singleton Malachi Singleton 6'2" | 210 lbs | QB North Cobb | 2023 State GA is definitely a young QB to watch due to his high developmental ability. At first glance, one will notice that Singleton is a big kid. With this, he also has the ability to run the football very powerfully, and effectively, while also being able to make certain game managing throws. A good NFL comparison for Singleton would be that of Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys. Singleton can throw the football decently on the run, and also shows the ability to avoid pass rushers. He steps into his throws, and has decent ball placement on shorter routes. Going into this season, we would like to see him take a jump in his raw mechanics, as well as his long delivery in his throws. If he continues to improve like we expect him to, we would expect him to add on to his two current offers of Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech.
Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA – 6’2 200- Brookwood
Without a doubt, the best player on this list is Dylan Lonergan Dylan Lonergan 6'2" | 200 lbs | QB Brookwood | 2023 State GA . As a 2023 prospect, Lonergan has already recorded plenty of significant Power 5 offers including schools such as Auburn, LSU, and Penn State. This type of attention comes at no surprise due to his ability to play the QB at such a high level, at such a young age. As a starter during his freshman year, he showed the ability to drive the football and step into his passes, all while moving cleanly mechanically. He has a great touch on his passes, and his placement is already at an elite level. Lonergan’s ability to be mobile, and still place the ball accurately says a great deal about his upside as a developing passer. Lonergan is also a very natural thrower of the football, and can already make certain college level throws. He is already a 4 star prospect, and we expect him to be able to possibly raise his stock even more over the next 3 years. Either way, it will be exciting to watch.
